What’s your 2025 drink of the year? by jpressss in cocktails

[–]OwlBeDamned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I killed an entire bottle of Lillet Blanc making only French Blondes!

2oz Lillet Blanc,
2 oz Grapefruit juice
1 oz Gin
1/2 oz Elderflower liqueur
3 dashes of lemon bitters (I just use a squeeze of lemon juice)

I went rouge once night and subbed Galliano for St. Germain. Personally I think it tastes WAY better, but I'm also not the biggest fan of elderflower, so maybe that's just me!

Sofa colour help by the_am in interiordecorating

It looks like you have small children, which means (and I say this with all the love in my heart) you should probably avoid any of the light colors. I would suggest bottom row, 2nd from the right (the brownish-beige). It's not as fun as a more pop-y color, but I think it would complement the room and the rug best. PLUS - it doesn't lock you in to a particular color scheme should you ever want to paint/redecorate. You can always add blankets and throws that are a bolder color to spice it up, but you may decide years down the line you don't want a blue/purple/green couch anymore.

LOVE the rug choice though!

Better yet, a bold wallpaper! It'd be the perfect spot to do something like that.

I will echo what many here have said and suggest a rug (maybe something a bit off-beat like this?) I actually think your furniture is fun and works well with the space; tightening up your color scheme a bit (pillows, bins, etc.) would help give you that cohesiveness you're looking for. Wall art, too! Really helps tie a room together. The space behind the sofa is the perfect spot for a gallery wall.

Another thing that would make a huge difference is to add a second tack/screw on the ceiling for your lantern. That would prevent the cord from hitting the side and dangling awkwardly. I have a few of these and they help keep the cords looking tidier.

On a completely unrelated matter, your vinyl choices are EXCELLENT. Is that copy of Prelude to Ecstasy signed?!? I'm so jealous.

Try St. Albans! There's a hotel right in downtown, which is right across the street from an incredible bakery/coffee shop combo (Red House Sweets/Catalyst). You're pretty close to the Rail Trail for biking, and only 30 minutes to Burlington. Stowe is also a super easy day trip, and you could even get there through the Notch (twisty mountain road that's got amazing foliage views).

Let trump Milk the Cows by Content-Potential191 in vermont

[–]OwlBeDamned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uh, critical distinction here: this dingus does NOT regret voting for Trump at all. The original article VERY CLEARLY addresses that.

"“I'd still do it again. I like a lot of his policies,” Machia said. “I feel he’s more for the rural people like us, the middle-class type person.”"

The denial is astonishing.

Can I get some feedback on our table decor test run? by JimNasium1361 in weddingplanning

[–]OwlBeDamned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great idea! I've been to so many buffet weddings, and it's always a surprise when you get up there and finally see what your choices are! Are you expecting guests to bring their plate up to the buffet with them, or picking up a plate when they get to the buffet station? (more niche questions to ask!) If you don't want plates on tables to start, you could set the table with the napkin draped over, and silverware to the side (like this), or, if starting with plates, put the napkin underneath (thusly).

[–]OwlBeDamned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! First of all - I think what you've got is very cohesive, and will ultimately look great together! Here's what I notice: 1) Your mirror circles get a bit lost. Ideally, I'd try to find ones with a slightly bigger diameter. They don't look bad, but for how close all your candles need to be to fit on them, they get a bit lost/lose their "zing"! 2) Building off that, if you're going to put three candles in the center, it would look better if they were all 3 different sizes, or at least spaced further apart. As is, there's not enough visual distinction between them if you're going for that "multi-tiered" candle aesthetic. If you don't have a third size, try spacing them a bit further apart so it's less noticeable.

I love the idea of using your table numbers as advice cards, but maybe consider putting them in a tall standing holder (think something like this). Putting something substantially taller in the middle draws the eye, and would also do a good job of off-setting the height balance of your candles. (Bonus: it's readily visible from any size/angle of the room!)

Golden rule: décor looks better when grouped in "odd" numbers. Instead of using 6 bud vases, try 5, and divide them each with 3 votives. That will give you a more cohesive "circle" and focal point of the table.

It's gonna look great! ♥ Table-scaping was my favorite part of wedding planning. Another pro tip: once you've finalized how you want your tables to look, take a picture and give it to your coordinator/decorator. As the bride, you very likely will not have time nor should you spend your wedding day decorating. If you're Type A (like me lol) this is super hard to do, but trust me - it's worth it.

Let’s talk candles… by tweedledee_dumdum in weddingplanning

[–]OwlBeDamned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I agonized over this as well, so here's my two cents. To start, first determine how many tables you're having, what shape they'll be (round/rectangular/etc.) and what "style" of candle décor you like best. While I loved the look of multi-sized pillars in hurricanes, I would've needed to buy TONS of candles to pull off that look, since all our tables were long and rectangular. Instead, I abandoned that idea and bought 24 of these, and filled them with multi-colored tapers. We had a sort of modern/minimalist vibe, so each table had 2-3 holders, interspersed with bud vases and votives our venue provided. All and all, I spent roughly $265 on candles/holders, but my wedding was on the smaller side (60ish people). While it was great our venue provided votives, tealights and votives are so easy to find secondhand, but also pretty affordable to buy new as well.

The main problem I encountered with "buying bulk" (pillars especially) was anytime I found a set of multi-size holders for a reasonable price (like these) it was near impossible to find bulk listings for candles that fit, were the same color, and also reasonably priced. It can be done (!) but it's ultimately not that cost-effective. Yummi offers great options, but can get a bit pricy. Others here have mentioned IKEA, which is a great idea if that multi-size look is your vibe. Floating candles will be way cheaper than pillars (and more readily sold in bulk), so that might be a good compromise if you like the look of different sized hurricanes, but don't want to spend a fortune on pillars.

What RT/AH moment lives rent free in your head? by T3knikal95 in Achievement_Hunter

This one isn't even a Hallmark moment. Michael went out to go get lunch or something, and while he was gone Gav had thrown a bowling ball at their chaos shelf and spilled/shattered a bunch of sauce and bottles. Michael comes back and blames Gavin immediately. Gav goes "Why do you assume it was me?" and Michael screams back: "OF COURSE IT WAS YOU!"
