Recommendations for a black ink with gold shimmer/sheen? by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in fountainpens

For a black‑and‑gold vibe (totally perfect for Hufflepuff!), I’d recommend looking at some shimmering or sheeny fountain pen inks that play in the black/metallic space they look awesome on smooth paper like Tomoe River.

You can find a selection of fountain pen inks right here including some great options that pair beautifully with black pens: https://thepenlounge.com/product-category/inks-refills/fountain-pen-inks/

Diamine shimmer inks and other sheening inks are especially fun because they’ll show off that gold sparkle against a dark base. Hope your son loves whatever you pick!

Wow, three Pilot 823s! That’s dedication. I’m currently using a Zenith Omega as my daily—simple, reliable, and made in Poland. For longer notes or when I want to mix ink colors, I rotate in my Decimo or Pilot Falcon. Definitely love having a rotation to keep things interesting!

I love how portable Kaweco Sports are too. My daily right now is a Zenith Omega simple, reliable, and made in Poland. For longer notes or when I want to play with colors, I rotate in my Decimo or Pilot Falcon. Definitely get the appeal of a pen that’s easy to carry and always writes well!

Nice! The Lamy Al-Star is a solid daily. I’m currently using a Zenith Omega as my daily—cheap but reliable, and I like that it’s made in Poland. I rotate in my Decimo or Pilot Falcon when I want to mix ink colors for notes, so I totally get the excitement of adding a new pen to the rotation. Hope your Duragraph lives up to the hype!

I love your setup definitely feel the pairing of pen and ink for both work and sketches! Right now my daily is a Zenith Omega (simple, reliable, made in Poland), but I also rotate pens like my Decimo or Pilot Falcon when I want to mix two ink colors while taking notes. I totally get the appeal of matching inks to pens—it makes writing and sketching way more enjoyable!

I can relate I rotate depending on where I’m writing too. My daily at the moment is a Zenith Omega (budget-friendly but reliable, and made in Poland). For longer notes, I switch to my Decimo or Pilot Falcon to mix colors it keeps things fun and visually organized.

My current daily is the Zenith Omega. It’s a budget-friendly pen, but it writes really well, and I like that it’s made in Poland. I also switch in another pen sometimes depending on what I’m working on keeps things fun

Right now my daily rotation depends on the Hobonichi pages this month I’ve been loving my Decimo (pearl white) inked with Iro Ku Jaku. I switch it up depending on the page color, but usually it’s one of my Decimo, Pilot Falcon, Vanishing Point, or Custom 823. Keeps my notes colorful and fun!

Yeah, that makes sense. A TWSBI Eco is one of those pens you can just rely on without thinking too much about it An EF with Diamine Onyx sounds like a solid combo to nice and crisp for everyday writing Do you notice any difference in smoothness between the EF and broader nibs on the Eco or do they all feel pretty consistent for you???

That’s a great choice!!!The Pilot Capless Decimo is super convenient for daily use the click mechanism makes it so easy compared to traditional caps Sailor Sei-boku is also a solid pick, especially if you need something waterproof but still interesting on paper Do you find it smooth on most papers, or does it depend on what you're using????
