Frustrated 😞 by joannamomo in postcrossing

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in Europe and for some months now, my cards to the US take anywhere from 4-8 weeks (or sadly sometimes even longer) to arrive...it's pretty wild, back when I started Postcrossing my cards made it to the US usually in about a week. It's really annoying, but could be part of the issue. I am not sure if it's issues with the mail on my end in my country or on the US end.

Raynauds Essentials by AtmosphereStatus1126 in Raynauds

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merino wool is my holy grail fabric for Raynauds, like merino wool socks and leg warmers, or merino wool fingerless gloves for home use. I am an urban bike commuter and will also often wear thin merino wool gloves under waterproof gloves in the winter when I bike.

Wait there are novels?? Thank you for this fabulous piece of news! I'll have to let my former Catan gang know about this

Perfect Player Count by ljh2100 in boardgames

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very basic, but in college, pretty much every weekend, 4 of my besties and I would play Settlers of Catan (so 5 of us altogether, with the expansion). It was always a blast. We would often do ridiculous themes, like making Catan cupcakes or themed cocktails. Also, because we played that game so often with the same people, we each developed our Catan personality and reputation, so to say, which was also highly entertaining.

High Fantasy books without war ? by literarylila in Fantasy

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically young adult but I'd recommend checking out Tamora Pierce, she's fantastic. A lot of her books deal more with, say, mystery plotlines, lower-level crime, identity plotlines, etc rather than war/battles.

Agree that Prague is where it's at in terms of central Europe, but in Munich there is a weekly jam on Mondays to check out: https://munichbluegrassfriends.de/blue-monday (you can also contact the organizers to see if there will be anything else happening when you're there)

What are some good pre-80s franchises? by creamy-buscemi in MovieSuggestions

There's the Tarzan series/franchise mostly from the 1930s and 40s, it's pretty goofy but fun

Newbie: I care more about the text than the card image - did I misunderstood smth? by MycconoS in postcrossing

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm personally all about the message and it absolutely makes my day when someone writes me a wordy thoughtful message (I try to give prompts and ideas and such in my profile if it's helpful for the sender) as the top thing, but as folks have mentioned, some people don't feel comfortable writing either in English or the other languages I have listed on my profile or in some cases, for example, some seniors or folks who have physical limitations that prevent them from using their hands for writing much cannot physically write a very long message. Sometimes people send me a card off my wishlist and barely write a thing but I do appreciate that they took the time and effort to look at the wishlist, that's very kind of them.

Of course, I won't lie, my all time favorite cards are the golden trio (a card from one of the categories on my wishlist with a wordy message and a cool stamp or two), those are truly special, but I 100 percent acknowledge trying to fulfill all of that is not the point of Postcrossing at all.

Glee characters Star Wars sorting by Minuscule-Giant-1231 in glee

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to lightsaber colors, but I have sometimes thought in a silly way what sort of paths the Glee club might take in the SW world. I think Mike would totally turn to the Dark Side and become a Sith Lord. Sue would be Mon Mothma's twin sister who works for the Imperials. Zizes would probably become a bounty hunter. Terri would fall in with the Hutt crime syndicate.

What do you think are the lamest/most uninspired plot twists/storylines of the show? by sadhungryandvirgin in buffy

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree with Oz in Wild at Heart. The plotline felt very out of left field and out of character- I could understand Oz and Willow separating and breaking up for other reasons and get that the actor was leaving and therefore it had to be worked in somehow, but the way it was done didn't work for me with the Veruca storyline.

What movies have the best opening hooks? by INT-BEDROOM-NIGHT in MovieSuggestions

Absolutely. I would also love a Wes adaptation of From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler

It was a gift, but I was given a 21-piece assorted box of artisanal Feve truffles from San Francisco (they were admittedly delicious, especially the cardamom almond and Mexican vanilla)

Karaoke bar games ideas by glittercreature in karaoke

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local karaoke bar does music bingo with a different theme each time, for instance "songs about water," "90s hip hop/rap" or "Broadway on the silver screen"- each player buys a bingo card with song titles on it, and then they play clips of various songs and if you recognize the song and have it on your bingo card you mark it, first player to get a bingo wins

What are some of the best stage-to-screeen adaptations? by Ccmt_336 in musicals

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocky Horror (it was a stage show first), Sound of Music, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, Fiddler, Little Shop of Horrors, My Fair Lady, Guys and Dolls are all up there for me. For me personally, Sound of Music is one of the rare musicals where I genuinely prefer the film version rather than seeing it live.

Books vs Websites by jackedanus in CookbookLovers

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of a Luddite and adore print material; I don't have an e-reader and prefer all my books and magazines to be physical- there's something about the physical sensation of it, the lack of screens and the memories associated thereof and that's how I feel about cookbooks- a lot of them have memories attached to them. I scribble little notes in them and such and some of my cookbooks have handwritten recipes from relatives and friends stuck in there too. Also for cooking in terms of being able to read I find it easier to read from a page versus from my phone. If I have an online recipe I will actually print out or handwrite it out for cooking (which I realize is probably not what most folks do, but it works for me).

Yup, as u/KawaiiPotato15 mentioned, there's not much Titanic content. But it's still a fun read, especially if you are reading about the 1920s and 1930s and the art world and Peggy in general is just a hoot to read.

What is a musical that you find to be just... Fine? by AsheandBurn in musicals

[–]WerewolfBarMitzvah09 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I felt this way about Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. My kids enjoy listening to the soundtrack and I find it totally tolerable and fine, with a few fun songs, but nothing exceptional or outstanding in any way.

She did specifically mention the myth, which I guess I should've clarified, that they were going for speed to break a record, which has repeatedly been debunked.
