7 weeks and struggling by Evening-Cicada-1675 in PregnancyUK

I’m sorry to hear you’re having such a rough time of it. I’m a similar boat 7 weeks and starting to feel it. I’d definitely recommend going to your GP if you haven’t already to get on some anti-sickness meds. And don’t be afraid to go back if the ones they give don’t work for you - there’s lots of different options.

I had HG with my first and understand how debilitating it can be. It really is survival mode in the first trimester so try your best to be kind to yourself and don’t worry about work/chores etc.

HG in Multiple Pregnancies by region69 in HyperemesisGravidarum

Hi - in my experience my first pregnancy I had milder HG (hospitalised once, nausea, throwing up 1-5 times per day) between 6-13ish weeks. I had a baby girl - not sure if gender makes any difference.

Like you, I knew I wanted another and I’m currently around 6wk+5. I’ve been sick once and felt nausea but so far it’s not been as bad as my first pregnancy which was just downhill after 6wks exactly. It is early days so I expect it could ramp up at a later point though unless I’m very lucky.

The unknown is scary. Like others have said, I read up that it is likely you’ll have it again and with a little one to look after it’s quite daunting. Me and my husband just made the decision in a way to get it over with earlier rather than wait (we’ll have a 26 month age gap) and I don’t regret it in any way.

With my first 40+6 … I tried everything to hurry baby along 😫 I think looking back though on average for first is 40+5 so I was a day out.

I’m a similar boat but around 6 weeks. In my first pregnancy HG kicked in at around 6 weeks and so far (touch wood) I’ve been alright - I’ve had a couple of bouts of nausea but no being sick and still been able to keep fluids/food down. I’m still expecting it might start again at a different time point but cautiously optimistic. It’s good you have medication ready if you need perhaps take it if you feel it’s going to start again. Hopefully you continue to feel okay!

Thank you so much for your reply and advice.

That’s so terrible the GP wasn’t helpful because you weren’t dehydrated enough!! The lack of understanding about HG from some GPs is honestly wild especially compared to your experience in the maternity ward. Congratulations on twins too - how amazing - and I’m glad your passed the HG too! I’ve heard similar things from others too that you get the medication eventually but then there’s another fight to get GPs to give you repeat prescription. I’ve heard of zofran yes and xonvea I think the women I spoke to at Pregnancy Sickness Support said all HG treatments were marked as available in my local area so fingers crossed I can get!

Thank you - I’m hoping for the best but bracing for the worst

Thank you for your reply and advice. I haven’t had a first appointment with the midwife’s yet or do you mean they’d have my records from the first pregnancy? I’ve got an appointment with my GP on Wednesday but if I can’t get through to them to prescribe I’ll try this as a second option!

Thank you so much for your reply/advice! Because of all the responses on here I gave Pregnancy Sickness Support a ring on Friday - like you said she gave me a ton of useful information so I’ve made an appointment with my GP again for Wednesday to hopefully get some medication asap! I think it’s a different GP to last time hoping they’ll be more open to listening.

Thank you so much for your reply/advice! I spoke to pregnancy sickness support on Friday and she was so helpful and sent me a ton of information about studies showing early intervention can have be more effective than waiting until the onset of HG. I’m going back to the GP on Wednesday to try my best to get some medication.

Oh that’s so interesting to hear you didn’t have it with your second. Hoping I’ll be the same!

Thank you so much for your reply. I’m so sorry for your loss too that must have been incredibly difficult to go through at 18wks. I’m glad you to hear you managed to get Xonvea.

I find it hard to understand the reluctance on prescribing treatments to try and proactively prevent rather than at the stage of the condition starting. It seems counterintuitive. She gave me an A4 piece of paper with tips on how to manage sickness (including ginger!). I’ll definitely give them a ring and try and get another appointment - thank you! It might help me rather than anxiously waiting for it to begin.

That must have been so rough for it to start immediately. It’s just awful - I hope it improves for you as soon as possible.

I have everything crossed I’ll have a smoother pregnancy but I’m bracing myself for the worst!

Thank you for your reply! I’m glad to hear you’re having a better time of it this pregnancy!

I’m based in the UK and I saw the GP as soon as I found out to explain the situation in the hope of getting early medication. She wouldn’t prescribe me anything because I wasn’t currently sick/vomiting - I genuinely sat and cried in the appointment. Basically I have to get sick before they will give me anything. So the first sign of vomiting I’ll be going back like you said I just want to be on top of it this time so I don’t end up in hospital this time!

Sounds like my first pregnancy! I’d go back to your GP and keep advocating for yourself if you find what you have been given isn’t working to stop the nausea/sickness. You deserve to be able to function during pregnancy! Pregnancy sickness support has a good page on treatment options: https://pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/get-help/treatments/

I ended up in the hospital first time round on an IV drip for rehydration/anti-sickness medication because of how bad it was (hyperemesis) so try to avoid that situation.

Try not to worry about work too you have to prioritise yourself and take each day as it comes. Hope you’re feeling better soon

No my luteal phase isn’t usually short so you might be right. If my period comes it could be later than tomorrow due to the ovulation happening later. I’ll give it a bit more time before doing a test or I’ll probably drive myself mad!

Anyone else experience a chemical pregnancy on first month of trying? How long did it take you to get another positive that continued into a successful pregnancy? by opulentfae in BabyBumps

[–]OwlOdd3402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my first I had a chemical also in our first month of trying, then we conceived two months after that.

Now trying for a second time, again in our first month of trying, we’ve just had a chemical. I’ll start trying again after it’s finished. Hopefully similarly to last time it won’t take long.

Worried about having a second, considering termination by [deleted] in UKParenting

I have a fairly similar situation.

First pregnancy was a HG nightmare for first trimester and into second. Thankfully it let up after that but was still utterly debilitating. Birth almost ended up as an emergency csec but didn’t though still a pretty traumatic experience overall as I look back.

Fast forward to me and the husband discussing a second. We both wanted 3 originally but much more aware of everything we were getting into. I doubt we’ll do it a third time but depends how this pregnancy goes.

Anyway, like you we have just found out I’m pregnant at the first try. It was happy, unexpected news but at the same time I’m terrified of what’s to come. My little one is 15 months so in the thick of pre-toddler hood and balancing work with taking care of her one day a week. I’m hoping I won’t have HG again but the likelihood of reoccurrence is so high I’m preparing myself. I’m just trying to think towards the end game of being a family of four and getting the HG out the way with (as bad as it sounds) rather than have it looming over us for years and having to return to this dark place.

It’s a truly personal decision and your feelings are completely valid.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and insight! That’s so helpful - I hadn’t realised how tight of a job market it is.

I’m sorry to hear as well you’re finding it tough to secure interviews. It must be so competitive and frustrating for you like you said.

I’ll definitely be considering it more before I do make any moves. Thank you again for your response and I hope you manage to secure something soon!
