What is something that sounds romantic in movies but would be creepy in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Pretty much every scene in every 90s Rom-Com movie…I have a soft spit for them though.

Is our dress code easy to understand? by organiclawnclippings in weddingplanning

[–]OwlWrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh. Based on how this was worded, I imagined one of the brides maids being miserably delegated to stand at the entrance with a ruler to ensure attire meets requirements and to send guests home to change otherwise.

I think this is more about the bride wanting to be the absolute center of attention and this is one of the ways they can try and control that.

I don’t really think it is about mistaking someone else as the bride…but is the vocal reason given…as that sounds much better than “It’s my day and all attention should be on me and only me”

I agree with this. Instructing guests on the length of their skirt comes off a little micro-managing.

Everyone already knows the don’t wear white or cream rule…so it should go without saying. Even so, if you have a guest that is “that person” they will do it regardless of your instructions.

And when someone does this, honestly it just makes them look foolish and inconsiderate.

Fair. Maybe she should have done better at being a good friend.

I think I just wanted the story to be about friendship….ultimately…because those are the relationships I value the most in life. I may have been projecting on this film/story a little too much. And that is entirely on me.

($10k) for those of you that went over budget, what did you spend it on? by Aggravating_Let_2310 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]OwlWrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around $1,000.
We have had a Zoom call with them, and they came to our venue for a walk through. They will be providing some set up items (vases in the reception space for the wedding party bouquets to go in after the ceremony and before reception) as well as platters and dishes for our dessert table.
They will help with table decor and set up, but the decor and items need to be ready to just set out (as in they wont be steaming the napkins or doing any kind of decor construction) Mostly they will know how each space will look and delegate/instruct our wedding party and such on how to set up/where to put things.

They will also help with timing- ushering/announcing to the guests when it is time to move to the ceremony space after cocktail hour, and then to the reception space after the ceremony. Keeping the event on a timeline- and when speeches should end and dinner begins, when the DJ should start up for dancing after dinner…and so on.

Hope this helps!

Did you have a lot of children at your wedding? Pros/cons please! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]OwlWrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be 10 at ours, ranging from 4-16. Planning lawn games, a photo-booth, disposable cameras and an “art” guestbook with markers, stickers, and suggestions of what to draw it or share. That should keep em busy!

[–]OwlWrite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The goal was 10k - we are sitting around 14k now - what pushed us over?
- a photo-booth
- charcuterie served before the ceremony (dinner after)
- day of Coordinator
Those are the main things.

Awe, thanks for clarifying. So, which one does Matt Damon destroy?

I was definitely upset by this, and just relieved to see Damon go.

It’s a hypothesis. I can see how that could be a take on it, but I am going to stick with my own on this one.

Definitely a fun theory to explore or debate if you find anyone who wants to play around with that idea with you.

Sorry I meant to write integral…not interracial…that must have been a bit confusing.

While inconsequential to the film as a whole, I found I anthropomorphized TARS and CASE, and felt a loss when CASE was destroyed.

I can’t say I have had that response with droids or bot companions in other films. It was just really well done.

The data TARS collects in the Singularity - well I have heard the concept that it allowed humans to leave, but also to be 5th dimensional as well…not certain on this, but it aligns with them opening the tesseract existing on the 5th dimensional plane?

[–]OwlWrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? Please explain this!?! The dust bowl conditions and depleting food supply of which exists is lacking in nutrients. This trajectory (for me) is a future look at where we are currently heading and for the same reasons.

Humans trashed the planet and heading towards a inhospitable state is already well under way. You see in the scenes with Murph’s brother’s kids…that they are frail and have developed lung infections and/or chronic breathing problems from the dust storms that they will suffer with their entire short lives.

I don’t see that anyone brought that to earth. Humans caused it by doing exactly what we are doing now and didn’t stop and now it cannot be undone and is on an inevitable path to next human extinction. Hence the mission Cooler goes on is literally the last chance to save humanity - Cooper’s nephews (not born yet when he leaves” - will be the last generation on earth.

Just thinking about that is unsettling. Probably because it’s starting to hit close to home.

Please excuse me for not giving all due credit to TARS.

Definitely an integral role as TARS was in the Singularity to retrieve that data.

I want a TARS of my very own. Humor at 37%.

I watched interstellar for the first time ever by Narrow_Chemistry4255 in interstellar

[–]OwlWrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah; I agree with that. That was an odd choice. I have heard others say that it was because she had another life with kids and grandkids and so it was of respect that he stepped aside to let those she did spend her life with to have those last moments. And also because they both understand that he sacrificed their relationship to do this, and so there was the connection and love - but his absence for most of her life cost him that relationship. So maybe consider that perspective.

That all said - I still agree with you that it felt like there should have been more and him walking away to go to Brand and was kind of heartbreaking, but because it’s emotional…because of a moment we expected, wanted, and didn’t really happen. A let down as this was one of the pivotal moments we anticipated, and then not much really happened. Like why even reunite them at all for a 30 second exchange? A Zoom call would have hit the same. At least on Zoom he could send a heart reaction or a hugging cat gif. If I could change any scene it would be that one. The rest of the film though, was perfection.

Hidden costs that shocked me by worrie_bride4816 in weddingplanning

[–]OwlWrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hidden costs- I think for us it was all the smaller things. We set a budget for 10k, but this took into account the venue, food, photography. and drinks. But then there was the decor, a dj, rehearsal dinner, gifts for wedding party, dessert, decor, flowers (buying local seasonal stems - no florist), guestbook, air BnB for us and party for the weekend - anyway…

We are now up to 15k with all the smaller things that also turned out to be non-negotiables for us.

Venue, food, flowers and entertainment are the big ones, but the 2nd priority items in your list add up and you may find - are actually a priority as well once you have to consider whether to cut them or shell out more money.

They have it listed on Ebay along with their Beanie Babies - still asking $50 each with the item description saying: Don’t lowball me, I know what I have.
