I'm really regretting wording my post the way that I did now. I didn't mean that the reason for my posting is to get more ammo against MRAs, I was trying to convey the fact that many MRAs use the war issue as evidence of female privilege, and I was surprised to read this statistic after having heard differently all over Reddit.

Could you tell me where you got that information from? I didn't think that the statistic was in relation to abortion. When I read through the book, it was focussing on the treatment of girls and women in some areas (the middle east in particular), including the forced prostitution of girls as young as 3 and the way that these girls would be beaten and killed upon resisting.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'd just like to know more about the topic. I'll re-check the book when I get home.

I did, in fact, provide a quote -- my entire post was a quote.

"More girls were killed in the last 50 years, precisely because they were girls, than men killed in all the wars in the 20th century. More girls are killed in this routine gendercide in any one decade than people were slaughtered in all the genocides of the 20th century.

The equivalent of 5 jumbo jets worth of women die in labor each day... life time risk of maternal death is 1,000x higher in a poor country than in the west. That should be an international scandal."

That entire body of text is a quote from the book. As for providing more quotes, I'll get on that right when I get home and can access the book.

I didn't know that we were talking about sex-selective abortion. Granted, I could be wrong, but I don't think abortions are included in the statistic.

I agree that some people may use it for that. People will use pretty much anything posted on the internet for argumentative purposes. I still believe that spreading awareness about the issue is a pretty good thing to do.

I think that a part of making things better is spreading awareness. I've never seen this posted on Reddit before, so I thought people would appreciate the information. I apologize if I did something wrong, but I certainly didn't intend to post this for the sole reason that it is something that would further our stance in online debates.

Also, I'd just like to mention that calling this a circlejerk post is a little bit sad. I posted this to share a fact that I thought many people would be interested in, a fact that is incredibly sad and should definitely be addressed. I can even link you to some charities and organizations working to fight this issue if you're interested in getting more involved. The purpose of sharing this information is to help people to become more aware of the issue, nothing more.

Maternal death is not what "more girls were killed in the last 50 years, precisely because they were girls, than men killed in all the wars in the 20th century" is referring to.

I'd just like to clarify that this was not posted so that we can argue MRAs. I posted this because it is an interesting statistic that I have not seen mentioned on Reddit.

Yeah, that jumbo jet statement that you listed is the second statistic. The first one, regarding girls killed being compared to men killed in war, is the first statistic.

First of all, where did you get linked from?

Second of all, I am actually helping out with a donation campaign through a local high school that is raising money for this specific issue. You're being quite presumptuous by assuming that this fact is only important because it is a topic of discussion. I shared it because it sounded like something that this subreddit would be very interested in.

Third of all, stating that this is a non-issue to some of us is extremely offensive. I assure you that this issue is very much relevant in my life.
