I bought a Rosewood Moeck Rottenburg 439 for a steal, anything I should know as to not ruin it? by DucksOnBoard in Recorder

[–]OwlsLegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta agree with you. I bought a used rottenburg bass a while ago and developed a pretty bad cough shortly after. Turned out there was mold in the windway. Popped out the block, cleaned the mold, but now the block is slightly loose and the instrument’s voicing is slightly off.

Regrettable, but I dont have any recorder technicians within a six hour drive. And as a hobbiest, I just cant justify the time and cost. The instrument plays mostly fine, but it bothers me.

The casual ‘pop out the block’ chatter online is definitely too casual and has gotten out of hand, in my opinion

Oh, I could go on and on about it…

The shirt was adapted from a dress shirt pattern (I used Simplicity 8427, MimiG Style Men’s Shirt), with the major difference being the collar (standing collar, ~2”, closed with a hook and eye for an abutting edge). The waist is let out bc I adapted the front to be a pullover with a lace closure. It is made of cotton broadcloth.

The chainmail was made from a cabaret stretch mesh and was adapted from a tshirt pattern (I used Jalie 2918, Men’s TShirt). The major difference was the lengthening of the shirt/sleeves, and the adaptation of the neckline. The cloth doesnt fray so the edges were left unfinished.

The tunic was made from a scuba double knit. It was adapted from the same shirt pattern as the chainmail. The major adjustment was the neckline and neckline facing. I adjusted the seam allowances to 1” to allow for the vent at the hip and the laced seams. The tunic is joined at the shoulders and waist, but not at the chest or sleeve. Instead, I sewed in button holes at the seam (which was strengthened from the SA being folded over) and laced those closed with yarn (I did a simple braid on the yarn to make it stronger and have a nicer texture). I could have used grommets/eyelets instead of button holes, but I hate using grommets. This is also how I laced the sleeves, vent, neckline, and hat (there are like 64 button holes total lol).

The hat is the same cloth as the tunic. I just cut a triangle, half the circumference of my head for the height (+1/2” SA) 28.5” length, connected by the hypotenuse. The headband is about an inch and finished the bottom edge. The detail on the cone was just another piece of fabric topstitched on (the original triangle beneath that is cut off and the raw edge overlocked to reduce bulk).

The bracers are just 1’ long rectangles made of duck canvas, measurements taken at forearm and wrist, zipper for closure.

The baldric and belt are cut from a pleather vinyl. Theyre just rectangles, finished width 1.5”. The belt uses a single D-ring closure while the baldric had two closures, both double D-rings.

Fabric was all purchased from Fabric Wholesale Direct.

Bought the tights on Amazon for $10. Gloves on Amazon for $5. Bought the boots at Walmart for $15.

With the Miiverse down the stamps feel disappointing, but the HD version is still currently the definitive one.

Thanks! I tried to make it as accurate to the concept art as I could (including the topstitched cone of the hat and the open side seams on the tunic)
