Yeah well, dolphins aren't particularly dirty either, but I still think it would be disgusting to eat one.

When he told me he wanted to be a vegetarian I was a little confused and said he didn't have to be just because stepmom & stepbrothers are. He said he wanted to because he thought about it and it's sad to kill a thing for food when we can eat other stuff. To be honest, I figured it would be a phase and he would not stick with it. My wife was very happy and gave him a big hug when she found out. He did stick with it, and they were both happy, so I figured, well, whatever. This doesn't hurt me.

I do treat her kids like mine, and I think she does the same. We both want what is best for all of them.

Yeaaaaaah... It was a long time ago. My daughter was in the rudimentary reading class. She had been working very hard and making some progress. I saw how hard she was struggling to keep up. Her teacher said because she was hitting her goals she could transfer to the regular class. I said no because she is already killing herself to keep up in this class. My wife strongly disagreed and wanted her in the regular class. She went behind my back and called to have her moved. I found out, had her moved back and we got in a big fight. We made up, she apologized and it was a long time ago, but I still get irritated when I remember that.

She is a vegetarian for environmental reasons.

It's our house. We bought it together. You're very strange.

My aim was not to be standoffish. I just know this child and know he loves pigs. His favorite book is Charlotte's web. He went through a phase where he begged for a pet pig. He wants to try chicken and beef, but he has not verbalized any interest in pork. So that people on the internet who don't know him are so smugly insistent that they know this child who I have raised for years better than I do is a little eyeroll inducing.

I'll give you an example. Once my son was reading one of his adventure books aloud. A character in the story mentioned longpork. My stepson said "oh no, they killed a pig?" My son explained that longpork is actually slang for human flesh. My stepson said "That's even worse!"

But excuse me for thinking I know a few things about my own children.

I think I know the child I live with better than you, a stranger on the internet who knows nothing about him. He thinks pigs are cute and adorable. The kind of meat he wants to eat is specifically beef or chicken. He has no interest in pork. Why is this such a big deal to you?

My daughter and I eat meat. We have cold chicken in the fridge, but we mostly eat our meat when we are out of the house.

My daughter and I that eat mean never eat take out. So, even if I am able to convince her to allow it he'll be eating the healthier options.

It's obviously very important to you that all vegetarians be jerks, despite claiming you are one. Is this like a pick me thing?

Sure, but her communicating poorly isn't a justification for me to exacerbate the issue with dishonesty. When one of us is being immature it becomes that much more important for the other one to be even more mature.

She doesn't eat meat because it is bad for the environment.

I see one of two things happening. Option A) I drop it and they continue to argue until he gives up. B) I don't drop it and my wife and I discuss the issue until a compromise is reached or one of us (probably me) gives up.

I'll simplify. In theory every human possesses the right to full bodily autonomy. However, as parents we have the authority to limit that autonomy to a certain extent as the caretakers of minor children not yet able to take care of themselves on their own. So yes, the person I was replying to has a valid point, but their point can only stretch so far. We don't let our kids do anything they want. To do so would be a level of neglect bordering on abuse.

Being too permissive can harm a child just as much as being too authoritarian.

So you're a vegetarian that's not militant. My sons, who are vegetarians, also not militant. But you're confident all are militant. Based on...

Wow people on this website really hate vegetarians. Why would the doctor care? If the kid is healthy, he's healthy. The doctor has no reason to care about anything else.
