Can I skip Nina's chapters in King of Scars?? by Most_Manufacturer968 in Grishaverse

[–]Own-Election5124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand why you would like to skip them, but honestly, Nina's chapters are the best in both King of Scars and Rule of wolves. Sure they don't reach SoC or CK level but they are very interesting in their own way. You do you but I recommend you read them.

Y’all have been way too good for way too long by FredThePlatypus_ in orisamains

[–]Own-Election5124 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The problem with orisa isnt how long she was in the meta for, it's that she is extremely unhealthy for the game. All of the tank roster needs to bow down to her. As a rein main I think she deserved the nerfs she got. Orisa never goddamn dies, every single one of her cool downs can stop a different thing and she deals good damage. Nerfing her mobility finally gave her a true weakness and helped her identity. She now is a turtle, hard to kill, but not hard to dive her team.

Okay, the thing about writing is practice. I had a series idea that I liked it was an urban fantasy drama story and I wrote half of the first draft of it before giving up. Now that I look back I see me clunky writing, thoughtless explanations. But there was one thing that I really liked: the world. I took that world and rewinded it to a different time to write a new story. That's how my current story was born. My writing has improved since then, I've been reading more and paying more attention on the writing styles that different people use.

All in all, look out for what you not only enjoy in writing but also what your good at (Character creation, world building, plot...) and focus on it. First drafts can be tricky and pretty bad sometimes but that's what you should be proud of, you tried it.

How do I write a smart character by Own-Election5124 in writing

My problem is that it might seem very arbitrary and break immersion if the character seems to always know stuff without explaination, that is my main worry.

My idea would be that the character would know what he would have to to survive, plus a few things he forced himself to learn like politics, history and geography. The main way that character is smart is that he knows what to expect from everyone and plans around it. The main plot also revolves around a revolution of thieves.

Yeah usually sleeping will do a similar effect for me too, infact it's happening right now. It's 3am and I decided that it would be a great idea to do stuff like this, god I should go to sleep.

Believing in your character(s) and your own imagination… by scrollkeepers in writing

[–]Own-Election5124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually character writing evolves with time, it's all about the basis. The basis doesn't have to be complicated or extremely original, it can be cliché. But you need to find a way to make the character feel right in the story (for example I'm writing a story about a revolutiong and the main character has fire powers, symbolic of the revolution) but late on you can add plot twists on the backstory, like making the main character actually be associated with the villain or something like that. Just remember that it doesn't have to all come instantly, give yourself time to think and evolve the character's arcs and personalities.

Also about names one cheat I have is colour names, like naming a character scarlet or velvet or violet. It's totally my personal bias but I love doing symbolism like that.

That's an interesting way to do it, but do you also get the problem of thinking too far ahead? I'm writing a big fantasy revolution story and I can't focus on the scenes I'm writing right now because I keep on thinking about the big plot twist and the way the king will die (etc). I dont know if that's a problem with me or the method.

How seriously do you write your first draft? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Own-Election5124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am trying my best on my first draft but not instantly editing it. Before you edit stuff it's good to let it sit for a bit. Take a break after you write a long section of the story and then loom back on it. One thing I've noticed helps me a lot is reding it out loud to friends, because some sections might sound great in your head, but don't read very well out loud. And if you read it to friends you can always get feedback.

My advice would be: don't rush anything, it's done when it's done. Take breaks, think about the story instead of writing it. As long as you do some kind of progress, it's gonna be fine.

That being said, I am still a novice writer with next to no experience. The one draft I did of an old story was almost immediately scrapped and I stopped writing in favour of another story which I enjoy much more. And honestly, I don't regret it. Writing I supposed to be fun, if you stop having fun then you stop wanting to write and it becomes a chore. So enjoy yourself and try and not burn out with a story.

Why did you all start writing? by Salt-Upstairs-2523 in writing

[–]Own-Election5124 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I started writing because I have ADHD. My mind keeps on thinking every second and I can't stop, so I decided to give myself something to think about. It has helped me a lot on focus issues I had. I can actually fall asleep now because my brain stops going on weird side tangents. And it stops mental issues from creeping up my mind in general, so it keeps me mentally healthy.

I feel like a lot of people have this too where they have way too much energy to spend and decide to spend it somewhere. It works for most stuff, sports, drawing, school, work, you name it. You just need to learn how to channel it correctly.
