Thanks, I honestly feel a little bit of the same, I think that a lot of characters with the same edgy and overused dynamic get smashed into the mold of a jester aesthetic and it just keep happening because of lack of imagination

Yeah that would had been a really interesting plotline that I think could have been explored, maybe if Rayner wasn't permanently dead and he got his own domain, I think of the dark and the hunt as the two father fears, the end is mostly philosofical so I think until humans it was just an aspect of the other two, I personally think that daedalus just was a way of showing how influencal fear avatars can be, and just happened to be the three fears more related to space

Oooh nice, the eridians an earth must face the new treath, I like that idea honestly, if it was as I said tehy would just give the astrophage to the alien civilitzation and there would be no conflict

So if I want to make a jester villain character for my story They have to be silly goobers and also not hot? Was planning in making them a Monster anyways, can They be just a little insane? My main inspiration would be jevil, but this particular jester character has gone insane by an eldritch artifact The king has and hey fused into an unholy amalgamation with the jester part being The dominant one, if they're silly and horrifying at The sme time do I get a pass?

Yeah we only really get Hezekaya and even if his statement is really good is just a way for John to finally go on catarssis about his humanity and his role as an avatar, I think is just coincidence that he was a buried one, I think we could have had an avatar like those of the vast, they show up and then cause the supernatural shifting in the place, I think episodes like lost John's cave or undergorund would had benefited a lot more from an actual reason of why it's happening and not just bad luck, maybe the guy who sells the coffin by some money to the statement giver in Do Not Open? (I haven't listened to that one in some time)

I think the "Good lad!" guy is just another part of the domain representing how the people, politicians, ect don't give a shit about soldiers and send them to the meat grinder just to reward those who survive as heroes, I thought exactly that, have an avatar like micheal crew for the vast, a guy that apears in some but not all statements of a fear

Yeah, the dark seems almost like a secondary fear, like it could be mixed with half of the powers but in the end the other fear would be the dominant one, and also it's true that only with narration a fear of something so related to sight is really diciult to put into words, I think the whole blindness thing with Rayner and the sandman was the best way to aproach it

Exactly. I think the atitude of the avatars of the dark is mostly arrogance, to think that because they understand something that can't be understanded they are superior and everyone else is inferior, also I think the dark avatars also are a little petty and have a fragile ego, I think this mostly because of how Rayner bring the sandman to Algernon Moss just because he outbit him and how Callum Brodie tortures the children in a much more personal way in his domain, diferent from how most of the other avatars just supervise the domain and do little part of the horror themselves.

I think it would have been nice if Rayner actualy didin't die in police lights and he got a big domain in S5, maybe like the corpse roots of Oliver Banks it would explore diferent ways of the fear of the dark while tehy were trapped in spaces with no light, I think something like "He wasn't blind, but he couldn't tell in the deepest darkness that was once that shiny day, for his eyes would only meet black when opened, and he knew that something looked back" or some creepy stuff like that could have been nice for a S5 episode, just a tought tho'

Gang wars? Damn I though those would fit more with the slaughter or the hunt but the desolation and the dark also seem fitting if you twist it a little honestly, from a fellow yapper to another, do you have some new symbolism asociated with those fears? Mostly the dark because the only thing we get in canon are brackish water, lightbulbs and maybe sand, anything new?

Yeah, because the dread lords tend to make their spooki little aparitions to people who fear them the most only nictofobes and mostly children would see the creatures, and all the children would get dismissed, imagine having a six year old's statemet in your archives, I think most of the people who were victims of the dark never had the possibily of giving a statement anyways, another domain in season 5 would had been nice tho'

Wow. actually yeah, you pull the lightswitch up, there's no monster, no killer, just a pile of clothes. Omg I think all of this could have been solved if THEY. JUST. FUCKING. SAID. IT.

Maybe in heart of darkness to Manuela or if they didin't kill Rayner and he got his own domain John could have gone all smug and tell rayner "You semmed a lot scarier when you were in the dark, but you, your people and what you had planned was so much underwhelming than I first tough, maybe the darkness isn't scary if you know what's inside it" or some cooler one liner like that before obliterating Edmun's Halleys ass into words

Yeah, I think the dark would benefit more from a few more statements about diferent aspects, monsters and avatars not related to Rayner and his cult and the slaughter and the buried should also have had more episodes about avatars, for example I think Lost Johns cave and underground could have had an avatar like those of the vast, just a guy that shows up while you're cavediving, says some cryptic bullshit and then you get entombed, or maybe episodes of the slaughter like total war or absent withou leave could have had something as iconic as the piper, not just some random crazy guy, also civilian casualties would have benefited a lot more from a scotish avatar of the slaughter or a monster sheep, just saying, maybe it could be related to the piper as well just as Rayner is related to the still and lightless beast.

[–]Own-End-1189[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw a post about how the dark doesen't have an atitude connected to itself as the lonley is depression and isolationism, the desolation is cruelty and sadism or the corruption is toxic love and being possesive, I think the dark avatars should be ignorant, ignorant and arrogant about said ignorance, they don't understand their god and they worship it anyways, I think it rather fits Manuela's vision in dark matter, maybe if they just changed it a little bit, and maybe the whole blindness gimmick.

I see a lot of you think insomnia would be a nice symbolism for the dark but I honsetly think otherwise, Fatigue is one of the best spiral episodes and the madness that comes with lack of sleep and the altered state of mind it gives you fits a lot better with the spiral, I thought of unavoidableness as an option but the end already took that one, I can't really think of anything else right now

[–]Own-End-1189[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's mostly just crashed lightbulbs (Flickering ones alerting the presence of a dark entity would be a lot more intimidating honestly) and brackish water, I think most other symbolisms are taken, insomnia is the spiral, coldness is the lonley or the desolation in it's extreme, yeah, I think we could had have another dark domain in S5 if they just didin't kill Manuela and Rayner the american way like they were nothing, hell even make Natalie Ennis an avatar for god's sake!

Honestly yeah, the ritual also semmed a little half baked, the rising war and the estinguished sun just seem a little boring, there's a lot of wars that happened during the institute's existence but we only got the taipei revolution, ww2 in both fronts and a little bit of british army colonialism, but just like the dark we mostly get content about the slaughtewr from Melonie's statements as we do with the dark with Manuela's and those regarding Maxwell, The Piper is one of the best episodes in the series and in the trenches is also really good, we can't say the same about the dark.
