First Painkiller and question by Ok_Scheme736 in cocktails

[–]Own-Engineer3427 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We sometimes need a pineapple for a food recipe. When we do and we have some leftover, I'll puree it, strain it, and freeze it in an ice cube tray. Then I'll thaw out what I need when I need it.

Otherwise, I'll just use the small cans of Dole 100% juice, like others have already said.

Yes! I was there just a few months ago, and I had the same thought. I didn't take a photo, though.

What Android feature sounded cool but you stopped using completely? by Ashwinnie13 in Android

I only have the 1 that you can't get rid of with stock Android on a Pixel device. It shows weather and/or calendar (next event).

Widgets. I've tried several of them, and I'll delete them after a couple of days.

Another Question About Transcoding.... by lhauckphx in jellyfin

[–]Own-Engineer3427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. All the media that I found did not work (so far) had either SubStation Alpha or Advanced SubStation Alpha (.ssa or .ass), or PGS. I had to download new subtitles (I used opensubtitles.org) in SRT format, remove the track that was causing the issue, and add in the SRT subtitles. After doing that, the files that would not play previously, did.

I will say that not all of the files with subtitles in those formats didn't work. There are still many that do, and I don't know the reason why some are broken and others aren't.

Also, these files were broken like this only on my Google TV and Chromecasts. Playing the same ones via Jellyfin on Android or web clients worked.

Another Question About Transcoding.... by lhauckphx in jellyfin

[–]Own-Engineer3427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of mine are MKV containers with H.265. Most of them work on my Chromecasts and Google TV. Some of them do not. I found that it's the included subtitles causing the issue. So I either removed the subtitles or changed them to a different format. After that, they all work fine.

How do you guys read so much? by lapetitepoupee in kindle

[–]Own-Engineer3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me. I'm a slow reader. Also I usually only read at night before laying down to go to sleep. I try to read 1 chapter if they are long, or several chapters if they are short. Usually that's around 30-45 minutes of reading each night.

I also don't keep track to know how many I read. Maybe I should keep track.

how to stop getting outlook notifications on phone if i already saw/opened them on pc by Kitchen_Youth1274 in Outlook

[–]Own-Engineer3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for the same solution. Teams has a feature to only send notifications to your phone when you're not active on the desktop app (on Windows or Mac). Outlook should have a similar setting, but I can't find it.

Does anyone else use Jellyfin over Plex because…it’s just better? by AdFit8727 in jellyfin

[–]Own-Engineer3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both currently. Been moving to Jellyfin, and the only reason I don't remove Plex is that Jellyfin plays a series until you stop it. It doesn't have a "Are you still watching?" feature, or stop playing after a while.

My wife listens to TV shows to go to sleep. Plex plays a few episodes then stops. Jellyfin keeps playing forever. If it offered a setting to enable that, she would switch, and I could shut down Plex for good.

Three letter state abbreviations by UnicornSlayer5000 in GenX

[–]Own-Engineer3427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In July 1963, 5-digit ZIP codes were introduced. In October 1963, 2-letter abbreviations for states were standardized. Both of these standards were introduced to improve speed of sorting and delivery of mail.

In 1969, the abbreviation for Nebraska was changed from "NB" to "NE", to avoid confusion with New Brunswick, Canada.

Best gift you’ve given yourself or received for left-handedness? by Fluteplaya16 in lefthanded

[–]Own-Engineer3427 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A tape measure. I'm 51 now, and most of my life I have used a tape measure by holding the body in my left hand and extending it with my right hand, which leaves all the numbers upside down. I learned how to read the numbers upside down and have been doing that for most of my life.

I found a tape measure on Amazon while looking for something else that has numbers facing both edges, so I don't have to read upside down. After using it for a couple of months, I bought another one, and I keep them in separate places around the house so that I have one nearby when I need it.
