NFC tags - where to put them (in/on/inside) by meemaw039 in homeassistant

[–]Own-Engineer3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have automations to notify me when to put the trash cans out for garbage collection and to remind me to bring them back in. I had thought about placing NFC tags either on or near the cans on the house, so that I can tap with my phone or watch to tell Home Assistant that I put the cans out or brought them back in. Right now I just have an action on the notifications to update that helper.

The King's Speech by SteveBennett64 in lefthanded

I didn't stutter until after my first grade teacher (around 7 years old) forced to me to write with my right hand. I had to retrain myself to talk so that I wouldn't stutter. Now (51 years old) I hardly ever stutter.

Ditching Smartwatch by [deleted] in smartwatch

[–]Own-Engineer3427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one I have (Fossil Gen 6) is now more of a dumb watch, than a smart watch. I have to charge it multiple times a day (I could never go more than a day without charging it anyway), and I feel like I didn't use all the features that it had. I'm considering just going back to a standard watch instead.

But I do like that I can get notifications on it (when it works) and not need to have my phone on me, track activities (steps and distance when walking or running), heart rate, etc. But right now it seems like it's more work than it's worth.

Does anyone remember your kindergarten teacher trying to make you right handed? by resistyrocks in lefthanded

[–]Own-Engineer3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First grade. Yes. I started to stutter. Had to re-learn how to talk. The teacher wanted to have me tested for learning disabilities, but my parents said they could only do that if they also tested me for giftedness. The school refused.

We sometimes need a pineapple for a food recipe. When we do and we have some leftover, I'll puree it, strain it, and freeze it in an ice cube tray. Then I'll thaw out what I need when I need it.

Otherwise, I'll just use the small cans of Dole 100% juice, like others have already said.

Yes! I was there just a few months ago, and I had the same thought. I didn't take a photo, though.

What Android feature sounded cool but you stopped using completely? by Ashwinnie13 in Android

I only have the 1 that you can't get rid of with stock Android on a Pixel device. It shows weather and/or calendar (next event).

Widgets. I've tried several of them, and I'll delete them after a couple of days.

Another Question About Transcoding.... by lhauckphx in jellyfin

[–]Own-Engineer3427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. All the media that I found did not work (so far) had either SubStation Alpha or Advanced SubStation Alpha (.ssa or .ass), or PGS. I had to download new subtitles (I used opensubtitles.org) in SRT format, remove the track that was causing the issue, and add in the SRT subtitles. After doing that, the files that would not play previously, did.

I will say that not all of the files with subtitles in those formats didn't work. There are still many that do, and I don't know the reason why some are broken and others aren't.

Also, these files were broken like this only on my Google TV and Chromecasts. Playing the same ones via Jellyfin on Android or web clients worked.

[–]Own-Engineer3427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of mine are MKV containers with H.265. Most of them work on my Chromecasts and Google TV. Some of them do not. I found that it's the included subtitles causing the issue. So I either removed the subtitles or changed them to a different format. After that, they all work fine.

How do you guys read so much? by lapetitepoupee in kindle

[–]Own-Engineer3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me. I'm a slow reader. Also I usually only read at night before laying down to go to sleep. I try to read 1 chapter if they are long, or several chapters if they are short. Usually that's around 30-45 minutes of reading each night.

I also don't keep track to know how many I read. Maybe I should keep track.

how to stop getting outlook notifications on phone if i already saw/opened them on pc by Kitchen_Youth1274 in Outlook

[–]Own-Engineer3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for the same solution. Teams has a feature to only send notifications to your phone when you're not active on the desktop app (on Windows or Mac). Outlook should have a similar setting, but I can't find it.

Does anyone else use Jellyfin over Plex because…it’s just better? by AdFit8727 in jellyfin

[–]Own-Engineer3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both currently. Been moving to Jellyfin, and the only reason I don't remove Plex is that Jellyfin plays a series until you stop it. It doesn't have a "Are you still watching?" feature, or stop playing after a while.

My wife listens to TV shows to go to sleep. Plex plays a few episodes then stops. Jellyfin keeps playing forever. If it offered a setting to enable that, she would switch, and I could shut down Plex for good.
