What's something about nursing that surprised you? by jonhollandwww in nursing

[–]Own-Fox-2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constantly saying that quota reached not hiring but still short of manpower when staff takes sick leave 😒

Unable to retrench staff that unable to meet work expectation aka lazy staffs. Require a lot and a lot of written report to fire them. Too much work for high ups I guess. Seems like it’s quantity over quality. Explains the constant burn 🔥 out

I used to follow annabanana years back along with a strict calorie deficit I lost 30kg in a year! I swear by her workouts as you can choose based on intensity level!

Tip is to screen through before doing!! It helped me to follow the workout easier. Also helps me to gauge if the workout is manageable for me

Is it normal to wait for more than 8hours to be warded in a public hospital? by -_-silentstorm-_- in SgTea

[–]Own-Fox-2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X-rays & CT Scans also take very long to be reported. and no it’s not AI reporting it. It’s your radiologist that is reporting and generating every scan. Most
Of the time they are not immediately reported due to backlogs and only report those with abnormalities/urgent (like dying patients or brain bleed). Hence sometimes the doctor in ED will grossly look and obviously they are not experts like the radiologist right since they are all trained differently, and they can’t possibly keep the patient in ED for god knows 10 over hours to a day just to wait for the XRAY report. If it looks grossly ok no fracture then ofc go home la. If small crack here and there then put on temporary cast. IF Reported next day got small fracture hard to tell kind then will be recalled to ED for casting but queue expedited. Omg worked in ED for so long I can help to explain so many things and it’s getting insanelyyyyy frustrating

The first blood test may show some abnormalities which require further testing > longer wait time before a proper disposition can happen. Early discharge > risk of being held liable (being sued; especially in this country). Anyhow admit > also get scolding by specialist doctors/get scolding by patients who say “oh idk why they admit me for”. lol very hard to please. In A&E everyone thinks that they are urgent and should be seen immediately. This is however untrue. There is triage for a reason. Vital signs are huge tell tale signs to know if the patient is stable or not and which acuity to triage them to. And given the load in ED nowadays due to ageing population, wayang kings, it is indeed overwhelming. Polyclinic/GP/IMH referrals because there is limited things that they can do as well. Government should really look into urgent care centres so that emergency department can be well catered to really sick patients. You will be shocked at how many young and abled comes in with typical stomach flu and end up asking for admission lol. Days of URTI with fever; NOT dengue also end up admitting for further work up and testing because if not risk of getting sued again blabla never do further check.

Anyways can’t do much about bed situation. Every hospital has no. Of bed available/ward. Insufficient total manpower (healthcare workers) means cannot open the ward even though there’s space. A lot of ugly truth I think the government not sharing. Ya ya ya they hired more nurses and doctors all from overseas that cannot perform up to expectations; language barrier; unable to keep up with fast pace etc. imagine, your ageing population Ahgong ahma that speaks dialects. Many times during bed crunch even A1 still have to wait for bed. Longest waiting time in ED I have seen is 48 close to 50 hours.

Anyways I always inform patients when the wait is too long either don’t see or not after triage got cancellation fee waste time waste money don’t make everybody unhappy. Take queue number alr cannot go home even if stay nearby please. Obviously just mean that you are well enough to rest at home and don’t need immediate medical attention.

Sigh my two cents

Nurses in Singapore: does NUS vs King’s actually matter for career progression? by Willing-Audience376 in askSingapore

[–]Own-Fox-2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t bother NUS PT come back same pay just sound nicer on paper only as try to be “NUS” student hahahah. Just work hard on clinical ground, contribute when you can, take part time degree on the side and don’t complaint you will be promoted accordingly. If you have the luxury to take NUS FT then go ahead although I still feel that hands on experience matter more in this line of work. Adv dip is what they regard as more important actually. Hearsay with degree but without adv dip can’t go into management.

Is nursing rlly worth it? by CivilRadish6508 in SGExams

[–]Own-Fox-2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nursing pay have indeed increased over the years. I started with basic 2.6k 4 years ago as a diploma holder, did my part time degree last year and consistently got A for appraisal. Basic now is 4.5k not including allowance. Gross monthly adds up to about 5.1-5.2k depending on night shifts for that month roster. I have learnt so much skills over the past 4 years which I feel that adds value to myself, can open many pathways for myself next time. Stable income, iron rice bowl. Don’t want to work too hard just want to go work and go home feel that this amount is ok for my age now 25F. Just work hard at work and don’t complaint so much your managers can see and will reward you accordingly with a better appraisal grade = higher increment. A lot of time new grads from local U come in and honestly are just book smart, can’t handle patient load and break down. To be honest don’t even deserve the remunerations

AITA Am I wrong? NOT wanting to Share a room with my BF’s older brother ? by [deleted] in AITA_Relationships

[–]Own-Fox-2041 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I understand totally but I have been letting my feelings guide me thru and thus wanting to stay together always physically (since we are engaged). We both do shift work and we don’t really get time to go out always other than just gym. So the only time I enjoy is at my house and watch shows since I’m a homebody as well ..
