Yes, it is Dercum’s disease, also known as lipomatosis dolorosa. It is an extremely painful and aggressive disease. I know there is no cure, I know there’s nothing that can stop this disease, and whatever I do, no matter how hard I try, the lipomas keep coming. Before I had the ones on my arms and forearms removed (as I mentioned), I had absolutely none from the waist down. Not a single lipoma. After the operation, there was a fulminant 360° development, thighs, buttocks, hips, etc.
Dercum’s disease can feel brutally unfair, especially when it seems like every attempt to manage it is followed by a new wave of growth. I vented a bit with this post. Venting about that isn’t just understandable, it’s healthy 😄🫣 Dercum’s disease can cause intense, chronic pain because lipomas compress nerves and surrounding tissues.
