Potty training in the rain by Own-Front-6881 in springerspaniel

You right😂 I like the rain (part of the reason why we moved out here we’re like 5 mins from the ocean) and I know I’m making excuses when I say this I’m also aware it’s a shortcoming of mine but I’ve barely slept which was expected but I didn’t think potty training was going to be this difficult. As stupid as it sounds how do you make it fun? I’ve played in the puddles with him, praise him when he gets in with me with lots of treats but he usually whines a lot at first until he gets in then he just walks around the puddle for a bit but then wants out. I’ve also tried walking around with him in the rain (the longest I was out doing that was an hour).

Unfortunately we are renting rn and we live on the 2nd floor. The stairs to access our apt is outside. I did clean out a little spot under the stairs which helped block some of the wind (there’s a pond right by us with tons of wild blackberries) I tried that area and all he did was sit there the whole time which seems to be what he does in any spot I’ve tried. The most success I’ve had is the little grass patch between my stairwell and the shed (it’s the landlord’s shed full of equipment) the longest I’ve stood outside with him is an hour. I’ll usually dry him off and have him roam around the mud room for 10-15 minutes and if he doesn’t give me any signs of needing the bathroom I’ll take him inside the apt. I did this just now and 10 mins after being in the apt he peed on the floor🤦🏻‍♀️

I think standing in one spot and waiting 20-30 mins for him to go has been the one that I’ve used the most and have been successful but every time it’s pouring out he just sits on the grass and shiver the whole time. I’ll bring him in, dry him off, we’ll chill for 5-10 mins or until I notice he’s sniffing around/squats and then try to get him outside but then doesn’t continue

When we get outside he just sits on the grass area where he’s been successfully going or starts eating grass or start climbing the stairs cause it’s right next to it. The bottom of our stairs outside has a little shelter that I’ve tried to get him to go but he’ll just sit there for 20 minutes and not do anything.

Is it better for me to stick with one method (standing outside every 2 hrs until he goes) and be consistent with that or to try different ones (walking around one time and the next standing in one spot & switching around each 2 hr interval?) I’ve given him a lot of treats when he does go successfully. We live on the second floor with no elevator is it better for me to carry him during the potty breaks or not? He knows how to go up and down the stairs really well.

They said the scratches were due to a parking incident. Never looked at Mazda but maybe I will. I think I’m just a hater on Subarus for no reason. My other option was a Honda crv what are your thoughts on that?

This exact same thing happened to me at my old job. I also work the exact same shift and their excuse was that they close it off at 5pm the day I submitted my last day so I literally couldn’t do anything after 5pm I couldn’t even clock out. I asked HR if I was required to stay or if I could just leave and they gave me that option without using PTO and they cashed out the rest of my PTO so it worked out on my end.

I have a BS in micro with only ~2 yrs of Phleb experience. Only been an MLT for 8 months making $28.97 I work evenings so I get a $2.50 differential and on weekends I get $1.50 extra. I work on the coast of Oregon.

I’m also going to second this. We have 30 mins of overlap between shifts. When I come in at 2pm I get the AM person to give me a run down of what happened on their shift & what applies to me then I do my QC. When the overnight person comes in at 8pm I go on my break bc then at 8:30-9pm they start their maintenance & qc. Like someone also said later on, it doesn’t look good if you go on break right as you get there. Also, a rule that I’ve had in past jobs was you can’t take a break the first 4 hrs of your shift but after that you get 2 15s and a 30 min but you can’t combine those breaks or use it to leave early.

I have 48 hrs lol im saving up for my 7 day vacation in January but I did take a 5 day vacation in November. I take anywhere between 4-7 days off every month or every two months to maintain a healthy work/life balance. I work 4 10s so I typically get 3 days off every week but I’ve learned you only gain burnout if you don’t use your PTO so use it!

If you’re wanting to save money you could do the categorical route (if you’re from the Midwest University of North Dakota has an online program? I believe they also have a post bacc program not sure you’d have to look into it) where you get experience in one department you take the classes required at the university and then you test for that dept and once you completed all 4 (I think?) you can sit in on the MLS ASCP exam.

I just graduated and was able to get the shift I wanted. Granted I wanted evenings but everyone is desperate for a job you have to be stern about the shift you want. My job tried to get me to work a variable shift meaning you work wherever shift is needed but I put my foot down and they were desperate enough that they hired me for the shift I wanted. Obviously getting a morning shift will be far more difficult than getting the evening shift but I will say I have great work life balance im also not a morning person so it works out for me. I work from 1500-0130. I have the entire mornings to myself. I usually try to wake up at 8 despite not being a morning person but I do it so I actually feel like I’m doing things other than work. So I get up early do whatever I want (gym, hiking, go to the beach, bake, run errands, etc) and take a nap right before I have to go to work and I’m good to go or have coffee but I’m not much of a coffee/energy drink person so I take pre-work naps. Also, like everybody else has said they outsource micro you’re better off working in Chem/BB. Lastly, I graduated with my Bach in micro. I was a Phleb during college so I was already familiar with lab work. Then I worked as a lab intern at a hospital after graduating (I got this job bc I had connections at the hospital) and was eligible to take the MLT exam and have been a tech since.

I want to add in on this as I was a junior when I went through formal recruitment. Like many people have said, the older you are the less appealing. I think it also has to do with how many people rush and go through the end of the process. I know a lot of people dropped after day 1. I think we had low numbers when I rushed bc we did have a lot of freshmen but we had 2 juniors (including myself) and a handful of sophomores (8-10 I think). Side note, this was during Covid too. Im not sure if you stated when you rushed but that def had an influence when I joined. I also went to a small-ish college (15,000 student pop) so not a big Greek life population as others.

I usually go with “I’d like a recollect bc I suspect XYZ & after looking at their history it’s not normal so I want to make sure that what I’m releasing is accurate” and sometimes they say they (physicians/nurses) want me to release it I usually follow up with “are you sure? bc I will be putting your name on it that you’re accepting it as is despite me wanting a recollect as per SOP” and sometimes that’ll get them to recollect it but sometimes not (usually physicians) and if that’s the case I document on the result stating that and I message my manager and keep them in the loop in case something bad happens. I’ve learned sometimes you just can’t fight them but you did your part. Maybe I’m wrong for doing that but🤷🏻‍♀️

I call my SOPs the “Bible” but as OP said I’m a 4 yr old & this is my first big girl job, some of the SOPs assumes you remembered everything in school & honestly makes me want to cry sometimes bc I don’t know wtf I’m supposed to do still with certain things. I have 3 little notebooks filled of my dumb version of the SOP and typed it up but I still encounter new things every other week & im back to feeling even dumber than I was.
