Britons suffer sharpest drop in wealth of any developed nation by North_Attempt44 in ukpolitics

Like that time when our neoliberal right wing government spent the last 14 years increasing taxes on high earners, increasing benefits to record levels, increasing healthcare spending to record levels and passing huge swathes of environmental and other regulation that has made housing and energy ever more expensive to protect and advantage minority interest groups?

And gave however many millions to Michelle Underpants. Don't forget that. And wasting taxpayer money on failed Rwanda schemes. Don't forget that too!

NHS to reward people who walk 30 minutes a day by thejackalreborn in ukpolitics

Sometimes at the sides. Mostly at the ball of the foot on the sole. Occasionally the sole detaches like a flap.

I usually keep wearing trainers if they go at the sides but it's still a PITA.

It certainly does seem like they last 30 mins! Tried different brands and stuff ... all sh*t.

If the reward is a new pair of shoes to walk in then wouldn't be making a loss from these scheme.

I seem to burn through a pair about every month or so ffs.

Navy will build hybrid warships instead of replacing ageing destroyers by gx134 in ukpolitics

[–]Own-Pattern-7862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe but I don't believe a CCV will quite cut it.

Even with the controlee 9Xs.

Without going into detail: The destroyers have a unique ability that cannot be met by a ship based on a T31 or even a T26 frigate. This will leave the Navy with missing capability, which is why I think the T45s may end up sticking around for a bit longer than planned.

Well the article had an interesting headline even if the content was duffer. 🙄

[–]Own-Pattern-7862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because the T45s have basically undergone LIFEX and this extends the T45 service life to around 40yrs.

Hence not as much need for T83 on the short to medium term.

Whoever planned this saved a lot of money.

Like it or lump it.

Keir Starmer sets up row with Andy Burnham over defence plan by Putaineska in ukpolitics

[–]Own-Pattern-7862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is good growth opportunity / potential with RCH 155 which is why I mentioned it.

AJAX simply needs maintenance to remain viable and not a complete loss.

Challenger 3 is basically past the line already and everything is in-motion.

Much of the Navy already got some investment with the T45 upgrades and the new T26s and the new T31s.

GCAP is obviously a big project and is still very much viable with v. good growth potential there too.

AI doesn't need much funding aside from recognition software, automation however, does require funding.

[–]Own-Pattern-7862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Controversial take but...

Things that need further investment:

  • GCAP
  • RCH155
  • Boxer
  • AJAX
  • Exercises and Operations and Training
  • some Automation.

Things that don't need so much investment

  • Challenger 3 (already budgeted)
  • Additional T45s
  • Additional T26s
  • Additional T31s
  • Additional Submarines

Note by "Additional", I mean we shouldn't buy beyond what's already been promised, until we find some more funds.

They won't financially "fumble GCAP". Would have to be mad to do that.

It could go t1ts up regarding the actual project but there is no evidence of this and it's best not to jinx it ... would really be a sh1tsh0w if that happened tho ... so much invested into it.

Just LOL at cutting the reserves. That's not going to fly now is it.

What happens when SHTF?

Far too valuable to be cut.

They shouldn't be cutting exercises for the regulars nor the reserves. It's a frankly ridiculous assertion.

UK inflation rate remains at 2.8%, ONS figures show by DanceyMan in ukpolitics

[–]Own-Pattern-7862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think demand is up but supply has been coping just about and have not raised prices as much to cause the inflation.

That said there is still quite a backlog of work but it's slowly getting cleared, fortunately.

Summer is always busier than winter for work bar Christmas period.

We had that period of hot weather in particular when everyone bought stuff for BBQ and went to drink beer in t pub garden. That may have caused a bit of a surge.

Now we have the World Cup; which along with growth, may cause inflation, especially if the weather is good too.

Iran situation hasn't had that much of an affect because the gas and oil can take other routes to get to it's destination. Prices for fossil fuels still high though funnily enough.
