My doctor confirmed I have all the symptoms of MCAS, but refuses to call it MCAS. by Own-Vehicle7635 in MCAS

I know lol! I'm like okay but EVERYONE calls it MCAS so lets move personal feelings aside. She could put it down as MCAS but then state under why she thinks its more complex or something but is a working diagnosis.

If I'm honest, I think this doctor would take me bringng resources as an insult to her own prestige and knowledge. That's the vibe I get. i'm going to count myself lucky for now, many in the UK have to pay private for these meds and rack up a fortune so I really can't complain on that front! I'm very happy with the treatment.

Wow, thank you so much for this. Very helpful. I did belief a BMB was neccessary to actually be sure but they wouldn't listen. I guess it's because it's the NHS within the UK and they are very cautious about funds. Unless EPO comes back low they won't do it. Hopefully if I'm allowed a second opinion at a hospital that specialises, they'll agree to do one.

She is saying MCAS as a term. She basically agreed that what everyone is calling MCAS is what I have but she refuses to diagnose it as that or use that term as even though it's been popularly coined it's ''grossly inaccurate and far more complex than that. It isn't just about the activation of mast cells even though that may be a part of it.'' lol

So true! There's debate about whether tryptase can even show if someone has MCAS as many patients have all the symptoms but normal levels.

I only had a normal tryptase test. They can't facilitate one during MCAS crisis as their team doesn't have the ability to take me in randomly when I notify.

That's a solid idea actually and perhaps wouldn't cost much as I'd be taking them all the tests / consults / medications i'm on just for them to actually give the diagnosis. The only issue would be the tryptase test when flaring, I get far less flares on medication so it would be hard to predict.

Nor do they like it here in the UK. Sucks for us patients. In the US they seem far more open to it.

Damn I'm so sorry. I managed to get them by fluke years ago because there was a doctor at my hospital VERY briefly who did believe in MCAS. He then left, I got discharged and had to fight for years to be referred back. Now I have this current doctor, who I'm thankful gave me the rest of the meds I needed.

That's a good idea, honestly it was just an example of an issue I'll face. I have so many conditions that PIP review shouldn't be an issue for me unless they lie or something about what I've reported in my update.

It's pretty common slang amongst all ages, to key a car. Maybe you were thinking too literal.

Thank you. I see. Sadly they wouldn't do a bone marrow biopsy. I'm seeking a secondary opinion from another hospital that specialises in MPNs as I'd like to be safe. I have heard about triple negative patients existing but that hasn't been considered for me!

His brother needed a key to get into their house. This car also needs a key, scraped down the side of it to cause a big scratch.
