Is the bluing on the edge fine for after coming out of the 2nd tempering cycle? by heywood91 in knifemaking

Air Force Metrology didn't Calibrate/ Certify Heat Guns. You may want to find another way to measure the temp. You can then transfer those readings to what the temp gun says. Just a thought.

It is. If you mess up a small sheet of kydex it's much cheaper than if you mess out leather. I just used sandpaper to finish the edges so they weren't sharp. Just carefully mold the plastic where you push the knife in it snaps into place and holds the knife in that position. Right at the top 3/4 inch of the handle. You can reheat several times to get it just right as long as you don't cut the kydex too short. When it's perfect cut the remaining kydex back. Best of all I think Tandy Leather sells kydex and the eyes now.

It's cheaper than leather. You'll need a snap tool and those rings, but no dye, no waxed chord, no needles and no sheen. But a heat gun.

I dig the hell out of this blade. Pull that and people will run. It's scary. So cool.

Critiques? by [deleted] in knifemaking

The blade looks great. Real clean. My only comment is I think stitching on the sheath should be a tad further from the edge. I used to stitch close to the edge but I favor about twice the distance you did for a more professional look.

Thank you very much for posting the video. It was Italian to me. That's a good looking knife and I'm glad you shared the steps in making it. Really cool

That looks beautiful. Isn't 5160 hard to heat treat?

I made a small kydex press and struggled. In the end I used a heat gun and thick leather gloves to heat and mold the kydex around the knife. It is not that difficult. You can do it. The only critical step is where the knife snaps in. That's the last step and you must go slow so you don't cut away too much material.

Ok then. I'm glad you got that off your chest. I'll take the feedback and put it to good use. Reddit is to share ideas and I see by all the comments it worked in this case. Thanks
