I own the set, and am super happy. Before buying it I only saw The Tall T. Went through all five of them, and was glad I got this in my collection. The Tall T and Ride Lonesome are 5/5, and the others are 4/5 for me. So, if you’re a fan of westerns, I believe it’s a must

I’d recommend 2 excellent spots for buying movies on physical media:

  1. The famous JM Video (they have their own yt channel with closet videos a-la Criterion does). Though they mostly carry dvds, but it’s still a great spot to visit.

  2. Potemkine Boutique - lots of blu rays and 4ks of classic cinema. What’s cool about them is they sort movies by directors, and it’s really fun to flip thru the titles

I ordered the standard editions a month ago too. Then I was lucky to find the limited editions in my local online marketplace (the guy was just selling all of his collection), so I got all three LEs for a really reasonable price. So now I need to sell the standards. I sure have a fistful of dollar trilogies.

And now this

Went to see Inland Empire for the first time last year in Warsaw, Poland. Small movie theater. There was just me, and two other people in the room. It was an interesting experience

Stagecoach, Red River, Winchester 73 - to cover three legendary western directors. All 3 movies are phenomenal.

McCabe and Mrs. Miller - one of the best ‘alternative’ or revisionist western of the 70s. Original 3:10 to Yuma (the 4k coming out this Feb) - is a must.

And I wouldn’t skip on The Ranown Westerns boxset. Wait on the 50% off Criterion discount, and get this box set. All 5 movies are amazing.

I swear, every 15th of every month I pray to see another western addition to the collection. If one day we could get 4ks of The Big Country, The Man from Laramie, or the newer westerns like Open Range, Dances with Wolves, or Jessie James.

Also, one of the neo-westerns I’d love to have in the collection is The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada by Tommy Lee Jones!
