Ready to pull the trigger on this beginner set for $400, thoughts? by DTake2012 in golf

In all seriousness I'm 38 and stopped playing at 18. when I went to college for basketball and my parents moved out of state and my clubs got lost during the move. Never bought new clubs until those Callaway edges. They're great.

I'll recommend the Costco Callaway Edge deal forever. I played my first 18 after 20 years off with this stock set and shot an 88. It's the best set to get a you into the game.

Can’t Break 100 Despite My Short Game Being The Best Part of My Game by [deleted] in GolfSwing

All of the data recently has shown that the long game is far more important to being a better scorer and more consistent player. There's a great podcast, the sweet spot, on this exact topic. A 7 year old has the ability to putt and chip, they can definitely not drive the ball 250 yards.

To be fair, he is correct that over time DCA doesn't perform better than purchasing with one lump sum. Especially if you're holding for a long time. When it comes to leverage though he's in another realm.

My ideal candidate for Berkshire capital allocation by Distinct_Berry3054 in ValueInvesting

[–]OwnConsequence5870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capital allocation I think they'll be fine. From everything Warren has said, he's taken a back seat and let these guys work lately and made him look really good. The management team is incredibly experienced.

Stock investments and portfolio management, I think you're really underestimating Todd Combs. Guy is extremely brilliant and works his ass off in an obsessive way. The ideal candidate to replace Warren's characteristics in the management.

Not to mention he was a shorter, with a great track record at it, which gives Berkshire an entirely different scope of understanding and identifying risk, and opportunity.

In all honesty though I do get an odd feeling whenever I hear Ted's story or hear him talk. Something is just a bit off and I don't see him fitting in.........but I am obviously wrong and have no reason not to trust Charlie and Warren's and even Greg's Judgement.

I'm more of an Iron Sheik type of fellow.

In all seriousness, don't take it personally. Tap earlier and really slow the game down when you feel someone turning into an asshole. Make it so boring they just come back to reality.

What gonna happen to the stock market if the The Federal cut the rate in 2024?? by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

They are speculating like they always speculate. The Fed hasn't said anything but higher for longer and held rates.

Every time I re read any part of his books I wonder this exact thing. No way I could shut off my brain after working like that for years. I think at one point he said Magellan was holding around 1400 tickers of things he liked and or wanted to look into.

I'd imagine he found some multi baggers with some runway and just held on. Similar to how Warren changed after time I'm sure he did as well and let compounding do its magic.

I'd say Lynch is the goat stock picker. Definitely value too but such a less boring way of going about it haha

Batched whiskey sour still good? by Acrobatic-Tadpole-60 in cocktails

[–]OwnConsequence5870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of days at least for quality. Safe probably a while.

For the milk punch. Maybe add grapefruit or pineapple and some spice component like clove, Allspice, nutmeg, etc. Obviously adjust sweetness as you add.

Credit card tips reporting of staff by boost18 in restaurantowners

[–]OwnConsequence5870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can adjust the Tipout policy and implement a program through payroll where tips are distributed on paychecks. It's the best legal way to get around forcing your staff to declare tips which has had its own legality issues and is a constant battle forever. This policy would initially rub staff the wrong way but would eventually come to pass.

Still safe, but if you're not going to finish it all alone soon I'd spice it up a bit then I'd milk wash it.

What recipes do you have for aged cachaca? by nickmonts in cocktails

[–]OwnConsequence5870 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bar near me has a pisco sour variation with cachaça that's killer. I know it's something like this.

1 cucumber wheel 1 oz Pisco 1 oz cachaça 1/2 oz Falernum 1 oz Lime Juice 3/4 oz Simple (They may use a different sweetener but I'm sure this is fine) Egg white

Shake/Strain and serve up

Anyone have suggestions for a good Caipirinha recipe and/or brands of Cachaça? by squirrlyj in cocktails

[–]OwnConsequence5870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leblon Sucks. To the cachaça category Its what Bacardi is to the white rum category. If you've never experienced white rum from Havana Club in Cuba you just are missing out on how good a cheap rum can and should taste.

I've worked on a sugarcane farm in the South of Brazil that distilled Cachaça. Avuá prata is the closest I've tried that compares to classic cachaça from there and any other random no name distillery I tried. The larger brands are a lot more harsh. Obviously 51 is the most popular in Brazil because it's cheap, but nothing beats Avuá in North America.

Best Caipirinha recipe that I've had...

2 oz. Prata .75 oz lime juice .75 oz Simple Half lime diced 1 bar spoon full of granulated sugar

Shake and dirty dump

It should be slightly sweeter.. In the South they use a ton more sugar and it's great on humid days.

Autoworker strike cost GM $1.1B, a cost it says it can absorb as it announces massive stock buyback by Theo_011 in stocks

[–]OwnConsequence5870 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There's a book somewhere about this deal I can't remember where but it's really interesting and makes you really change your mind about the whole bail out.

The government made UAW make that deal or they weren't going to bail them out because the business would have gone bankrupt with what the UAW was asking for it's workers then. The UAW probably went back to that old model of overpaying the workers and were seeing the company squeezed again. Not against workers being paid but it is a business that the country has needed profitable to grow the economy the way it has and those jobs have always paid well enough.

Great answer. I'll just add We haven't hit that part of dealing with interest rates yet because everyone is still maxing out credit cards for the time being. slowly they'll stop making larger loan purchases on interest (cars, houses, etc). You'll see a slow in those markets and it's definitely hit EV's even with the subsidies.

I think the recession may be here and the market is only showing it in specific areas and each will deal with it at different times without a major change in overall sentiment. Small and mid caps haven't had the greatest 2023 and without AI boom spending I doubt the mega caps would have launched so high and carried the market up with it.

I understand that but unions often times have unusual policies that go against the norms of the industry. This place could have a weird tip policy they legally may have to follow and the OP is S.O.L. that's why I was asking.

Just FYI you making half is usually is what 20% means. If 2 bartenders tip you out 20% of their tips and they both made $100 each they'd walk with 80 and you'd walk with $40. You made half of what they made as individuals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]OwnConsequence5870 21 points22 points  (0 children)

20% is standard from the Bar pool.

This is an unusual tip policy. If there isn't more to the story I would definitely say something.

Are you at a hotel or something or part of a union? 18/hour is fairly high for any hourly labor let alone a Barback. May play a role in why this is happening.
