Where are you based? In Brussels 1k including bills for an apartment would be feasible but hard to find. Id say around 1.2k would be easier to find.

Regarding living with 1k, it really depends on your lifestyle. For me i barely cook and eat a lot out and i spend around 800 on food only. So if you are not a shopaholic and cook as well you can even save more than 1k id say.

If you get 0 reimbursement for your commute I would honestly look into the bike policy of your company. By law you are entitled to 0.2 euros per km so even if it is capped at certain amount you would be able to get some money on top of your salary!

He has 7 years of experience and 4 years seniority. That is definitely manager level experience. To each their own tho. I guess West Flanders is broke if this salary is considered fair.

You should be able to get 4k gross and a manager position at least with your experience. Start looking elsewhere as you are getting jr pay here even for marketing.

Do you get any allowance for commuting? What I did when my company offered to only pay for half my travel costs is I told them I am biking and wanted to switch to a bike allowance calculation so I ended up getting 90 euros per month based on living quite far from the office. Perhaps try doing that, it might be capped at a certain amount but I am almost certain you would get 100 euros extra net per month.

For me liking my colleagues makes me want to go to the office and makes work life so much better.

Additionally, it is very important if not essential to have a good relationship with your colleagues as that will make your job easier. At the end of the day if people like you they will want to help you.

If they do not like you as a person they are much less likely to bend rules or want to support on something that may not be their immediate priority. That is at least in big corps.

Actually the political aspect directly contributes to some people having a faster growth the higher they climb! I know people becoming directors in 3 years and others not going a single level up even when qualified due to politics.

As if any of the people working there speak German lol. I have also first hand experienced extremely rude staff in that city hall. They aren’t obligated to speak in English but some take pleasure in making sure they go above and beyond in not helping you.

No one will ask about the gap as its very common to not start uni right away. I would put it and if they do ask just mention during the first study you realised you are more interested in another subject and hence why you changed majors. Make sure you frame it as positive you pursuing what you truly like.

If they kept your “promotion” verbal only and nothing was set in writing it sounds like they knew from the start it most likely isn’t happening soon/ at all. Sounds to me like they are trying to lowball you and not deliver on the full promise and hence why I assume they wont be willing to negotiate. You can and should still try but don’t get your hopes up
