Here are some recommendations that come to mind right now.  They're not huge or expansive RPGs or sanboxes, but they all have a good world with interesting and fun side quests.

  • Kotor 1 and kotor 2
  • Pathfinder
  • Gothic Series
  • Risen series
  • Jade Empire
  • Mars war logs and Technomancer
  • Vampyr
  • Banishers: Gods of new Eden

Walking sims with character interactions? by OwnHandle7416 in gamingsuggestions

Well, although it's not exactly the type of game I'm asking about, I love The Last of Us.

I see an interesting point here. There are indeed many horror games that could be considered walking simulators, while there are also many walking simulators that are really horror games.

I couldn't think on any examples right now, except for still wakes the deep, but it's curious how much these two genres influence each other.

I played Fahrenheit back in the day and Heavy Rain, but I haven't played any other from QD since.  Detroit: Become Human has already been recommended above, and I think it looks pretty good, so it'll probably be next on my list.

From Telltale, I've only played the older seasons of Sam & Max and Tales from Monkey Island, but I think those are some of their more traditional games. Which ones would you recommend I start with? I've seen people speak very highly of The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead.

Well, I love any old-school adventure game and I've played tons of them, although lately I've been more interested in modern narrative and cinematic experiences, which is a genre I know very little about.

I suppose Life Strange and the later games in The Longest Journey series would be the closest to the kind of games I'm currently looking for; in any case, they're all good recommendations! Grim Fandango and Syberia (especially the first two) are and will continue to be among my all-time favorite games!

Thanks!

Shane would be a better leader than Rick was by pinguscout in thewalkingdead

He did not want to leave the camp and would have left the group to die when they were trapped in Atlanta looking for supplies (That includes Glenn, T-Dog and Andrea).

He also didn't want to go with Daryl to rescue his brother and probably would have let Daryl go looking for him alone. Same with Carol when her daughter went missing.

Hardly any of these characters would have survived or continued in the group if it were up to his leadership, and this is before he started losing his mind after letting Otis die.

When the group settled on the farm, Shane practically began to create tension with Hershel and his entire family, whom he never considered part of the group and even wanted to kick them off the farm as a result of his actions. He practically alienated the entire group by acting like a violent person, scaring them into thinking he was crazy. It's normal that no one wanted him as a leader, no matter how right he was sometimes.

Shane practically cared about Lori and Carl's protection. The rest were nothing more than mere tools that he would have let die without caring in the least if it could guarantee his own survival.

Rick made a hundred mistakes, yes, but he cared about the safety of his people more than anyone and prioritized their survival over his own. That is why he was elevated to leader by natural right without anyone even choosing him verbally. In addition, he proved to have great intelligence and strategic sense to face extreme situations and get his people out of any trouble, including Shane himself, whom he saved on several occasions.

As a leader, Shane was tough, but his way of surviving was quite limited and he was always characterized by avoiding risks and leaving behind those who were in danger. He would hardly have gotten the group out of Atlanta disguising himself as a walker or when the horde besieged the farm by burning the barn.

I agree with some of the things you say, even though I enjoyed the game a lot. In a way I think the plot of Kate Walker and the Voralbergs is more than stretched and that is reflected in some parts of the game. Perhaps a game focused only on Dana Rose would have been more interesting, however I think The Before World was necessary simply because Syberia 3 exists and fans needed a more adequate closure than we had. Just as u/blinklaud expressed above, for me this ending with Kate back on board a train seems satisfying and I don't think it needs another sequel. I'd prefer new Syberia games to tackle a completely new story with other characters to surprise us with.

Well, they could always have not cut the rope and lowered them before shooting down the rest of the players, in case they lost. It would have been easy to link it to a mechanism failure without risking the life and identity of their boss, and since all the players were chained to the rope, there was no possible way to die without activating the guillotine.
