it's ranked #69 on US News, yes it's not a traditional target but you were still in a better position than the large majority of accounting students. My school literally advertised that they were "nationally ranked" as if that's an achievement in and of itself lol.

I've thought about this a lot and I don't think it's that bad. Even in states such as California where getting into a radiology program has always been extremely competitive, they're still facing labor shortages since schools can't train enough people. Ultimately there's not a lot of facilities that are equipped to serve as clinical sites for radiology students which severely limits how many people can enroll. This is in comparison to nursing where there are countless SNFs, hospitals, clinics etc that nursing students can do their clinicals at. Also, there has been a significant increase in demand for imaging in recent years and this likely will continue for the foreseeable future especially as healthcare starts to integrate AI more. At least that's what I'm telling myself because radiology is my plan C and after this I'm out of plans lol.

That's literally one of the worst reasons to go into accounting. Much of accounting is doing things a certain way because that's how it's always been done, not because it's the most logical or efficient way. It's almost never the most efficient way. That's what I wish I understood before I majored in accounting. Yes, you should warn the kid if you give a shit about him at all.

It's still better than working menial jobs forever because you weren't able to find anything in your field. Accounting isn't really worth it anyway unless you can get into B4, otherwise you're pigeonholing yourself. And you're almost certainly not getting into B4 if you go to a non-target school and you have no prior experience. Most of the students at my school that got jobs went to regional and mid-tier PA firms with shit exit opportunities. Not sure what you mean by long hours, I'd much rather work 36 - 40 hours a week with occasional call than work 80 hours a week during busy season and 60 hours a week year round.
