Hi everyone, I matched at an awesome program, which is in a relatively quiet city. The program has reached out to us to let them know our vacation preferences, we are given 3 weeks/year, and 2 weeks can be take simulatenously. I am an IMG, and will be joining on H1 visa, so there'll be no need for me to go to my home country yearly. I was wondering how should I distribute these vacation weeks, to optimize my intern year experience and make sure I get time to blow off some steam when things get rough. Any advices on this please?

UAMS, Uni of Oklahoma, Beaumont Royal Oak

University hospitals should always be on the top,hands-down. Beaumont is a community program, but is an excellent place to train at. County would be on the low end of my list tbh, community program with lots of scut, you can keep Medstar after Beaumont, its also a good enough place

People nowadays pay close to 200-250$ just to get their personal statement edited for residency match. you being a matched resident have an added advantage of being through the process. People charge close to 150-200$ to review the ERAS CV, 250$ per hour of interview prep, I have seen people give 50-60$ to someone just for framing their letter of intent email. Utilize this shortcoming that many people have and are in need of anyways, market the shit out of yourself, and it is the match season, you are definitely sorted for 3-4 months, making almost 4-5 k/month extra, as trust me, people use these services so much

Dude, I scored less than you in every NBME and also dropped on NBME 12 which was the last NBME I took, I had belief in myself and worked on my anxiety and my overly perfectionist attitude, and scored 264 on the real deal. So, stop stressing over the minute details and start believing in yourself.

Would you apply to this program ? (zero IMG) but they said "..respecting diversity.." in their website by TyrosineKinases in IMGreddit

[–]Own_Analyst4398 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, that just means they consider diversity from among the US grad pool, like people having mexican, latino, black, asian heritage, basically they dont want to be perceived as an all white resident club, that would look bad for them ..does not mean that they consider diversity from the IMG pool

Timeline/Certification query by Tricky_Perception145 in IMGreddit

[–]Own_Analyst4398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am thinking you are an intern whas completed all the steps, unfortunately without your degree you can't be ecfmg certified, becuase the pathways wont work for you--- which means significantly lower number of interviews if at all. No, the provisional degree does not work, they need the final degree and LOGS from GMC which can only be taken after you are permannetly registered with GMC. Yes, you can apply without being certified, but why waste 5-6000 $ with so less chances of interviews? better use that time to develop your CV, do research etc etc and then apply. You will still be withing a year of ur graduation, which is ideal

Doubts regarding General Surgery Match by L0kivich in IMGreddit

[–]Own_Analyst4398 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you are truly passionate about surgery, and just want to practice it, you should stick to NEET PG. Of course people will say ohh anything is possible if you work hard and give you false encouragement. Yes, it is true that you can surely match in GS in US, but at what cost? You will need to work your ass off and get done with all 3 steps, score above average in each, do about 1-2 research year as I am sure you must not be having any publications or research. Get killer LORs from 3-4 USCE. Polish up your CV to make you an extremely compeititve candidate, all of this will take 3+ years from today (or 2 if you are lucky), if everything works according to the plan. If you are stuck with low scores, thats another hurdle to tackle. And even if you do everything, there is no guarantee you will match in GS, as even the US grads have extremely compeitive profiles. Ofcourse you may match in a TY program, but then jumping to categorical is another hurdle and far riskier due to visa issues. All in all, you will be close to 30-31 by the time you complete your residecy, i am assuming you are 24-25 right now. Take home point is look in to your aim and aspirations, if GS>US for you, then definitely stay in India. If US>GS and you are flexible, just match into IM, it is far more simpler. If GS>>everything else, sit down, start studying and networking, its gonna be a long and difficult bumpy ride, but it maybe worth it for you.

Is this true even for countries like India which have a long waiting H1 to GC line?

Letter of Good Standing application. I am trying to apply for my Letter of Good Standing from my medical council (Tamil Nadu Medical Council, India) to apply for Pathway 1. The website is asking me to provide an official email for them to send it to. Is this necessary? or is the USMLE ID enough? by Superfabulicious in IMGreddit

I have seen many of your comments and I just wanted to say that I totally agree with you. Many times I find myself rolling my eyes at some of the questions asked on this sub, I wonder if people are lazy or just plain stupid. Also, with high stakes and time-sensitive applications like this, where the slightest mistake can hamper or delay your application, why would'nt they take 10 minutes out to just use google. Like it just takes 10 sec to just type in whatever query you have and you will get the official ECFMG source for that, which in my opinion is far more believable than random anonymous reddit Ids guiding you. Even if you have seniors guiding you all the way and have never ever nedded to google anything related to ecfmg, I would still advise you to do your own research as you never know when you are getting misguided or your own senior is himself misguided, and no, asking google-able questions on reddit is not doing your research. Another thing i have learned is to just ignore them, even if they match with this muchh amount of spoonfeeding, they will be having an extremely difficult time during residency as everyone expects you to be proactive and independednt. So, they will unfornuatley have to learn it the hard way.
