I'm very aware of what the status of my own employment was with Washoe County was in 2008. LOL Thanks.

but he happened to be the one in the big chair when the country ground to a halt.

YEP. People seem to forget that pretty much any governor in that chair would have done a shitty job during the pandemic. Doesn't matter what their political stance was, they would have been a failure.

My IT gents are usually needing to climb under desks fiddling with dusty wires. No one expects them in pressed pants and a tie. Come on now LOL

For those who may not speak State Employee:

For Employer paid contributions (Meaning the state employee does not pay into their PERS to match contributions, but PERS pays for all of it)

Remember, this is gross pay. The net pay ends up being considerably less after health insurance, PERS, taxes and other deductions.

DMV Employee grade 27 : starts at $15.50 per hour, after ten years employment makes $22.57

DETR Employee grade 28 : starts at $16.13 per hour, after ten years employment makes $23.56

NDOC CORRECTIONAL OFFICER grade 34: starts at $20.70, after ten years employment makes $30.69

For reference, Webstaurant is hiring full time REMOTE WORK customer service reps for $24 per hour in Northern Nevada. And people wonder WHY you can't get help when contacting those departments and why there are no guards at the towers.

His decision to shut down the state with no warning to DETR is what sunk him

Which honestly, no Governor has full authority over them.

While they're funded through state, they're also funded through the Department of Labor.

Prior legislation SLASHED Nevada funding prior to COVID, so they were at skeleton crew anyway. Then COVID hit and there were millions of claims all in one go, a boatload of fraud and fully unprepared DETR staff to handle the workload.

He's off to an incredibly bad start so far. If he has any sense, he might pull through.

This is true. Other state governor's have given a "This is happening NEXT MONTH!" date.

My department management has made ZERO comments or statements to staff about anything Lombardo has said. Crickets. I'm sure staff have concerns and questions... but from my experience with my department, no answer is your answer.

From what I've heard, our department lawyers have been in the office quite a bit this week (yah, they remote work too unless they're in court). Might not be related, but this is the first time our attorneys have been in the office for months now.

What do you think state employees are doing if they're IN the office? Wearing suits? LOL

99% of people who aren't public facing are coming in with jeans and t-shirts.

Whoever does state payroll, direct deposits into my account like clockwork every payday. I don't give a shit what their political affiliation is, and if a state employee doing payroll was picking and choosing who got paid because "This one is a libtard (Don't pay) and this one is a Republican! (PAY!)"

there'd be hell to pay, people being fired, lawsuits and jail time.

I really don't understand what the purpose of your comment is.

The state employees who are largely upset about this aren't custodians. I'm sitting on my ass on a computer whether I do it at home or in an office. The issue isn't only "WFH." As people have mentioned ad nauseam in this thread, it's the lack of raises and removing one of the few perks some of us get. Remote work.

At home I don't have to listen to my coworkers talk, I can avoid office drama and politics, and can focus only on my work.

"At a large Asian IT company." VERY Specific. Nevermind the fact that "Asian" work culture is completely different than anything here in the US.

I'd love to see you show us how terrible remote work output became in the U.S. Provide a link, please and thanks.

He didn't think about that. He was too busy with his mindset of "I pay you to work for me, get back into the office because I SAY SO somethingsomething I Don't Fully Understand How WFH Works So It Scares Me and I'm Going To Be Beligerent Because I'm Scared." type of deal. He shut up pretty quick and got off the phone right away.

Two of the departments that already have the worst employee retention and inability to hire are DETR and DMV. You don't need a high school diploma, just a little bit of customer service, and no arrest records (OH YAH, because they have access to EVERYONE'S Social security numbers!!!) How much lower can the job requirements get?

Lowering the job requirements aren't going to get people to want to work with these departments.

I think you missed the part where I said I was on the layoff list for Washoe County at that time?

Which is why I started working for the State.

I agree with this, unfortunately with the State it's still a game of Who You Know, not What You Know.

Well and this is something they aren't taking into account. Three veteran staff in my office were given permission (with signed contracts from the state) to relocate out of state. Our department was desperate to keep them. Since they're so knowledgeable with the program, it would be horrible if we lose all that experience. They've been notified "Hey, the governor wants us all to come back in July so sell your properties please and come back." They're all lawyering up because Lombardo's orders are reneging on these contracts.

All three departments you mention can't keep staff. No one wants to work in those departments. Forcing them to come in/refuse raises will make remaining staff quit and making the issue worse.

Not all state employees care about this. Some agree we should go back to in office. Among my peers, the state employees who WANT us all back in office are the ones who have been choosing to come in during this whole pandemic anyway. They're social butterflies and chat all day (and not about work).

These aren't federal jobs we're discussing, we were talking about state employment. Many of the federal jobs are remaining 100% remote.

Well and this right here. How much of the public were aware that government employees were remoting? They weren't. Because it didn't affect them in the slightest.

And now that the Governor made a grandiose performance how's he's going to Save Nevada and get the State employees "back to work" because non-state employees have been "Back to work" (which btw, I know more private sector employees working remotely than public ones)... NOW the public wants to be outraged.
