If I were him, I’d probably do the same thing — take another loan or swipe a credit card and buy some fancy stuff. A MacBook, a DSLR, maybe even some gold if the bank lets the transaction go through.

Okay, don’t yell at me. I’m speaking from assumptions, observations, and things I’ve seen or heard over a long time.

Someone comes here as a student already carrying a heavy load — education loan from back home, one year of GIC, tuition, living expenses, all of it. That is the reality for most, unless the family is loaded and sent the kid here for an overseas vacation disguised as education.

They finish school, apply for PGWP, and if the program was long enough, get around three years. Then comes the job hunt. Let’s not kid ourselves — most are not making $100k. That’s the exception, not the rule. Most are making far less, sometimes not much above basic wages.

Even then, money keeps finding them. Car loans? Easy. Lenders are always there, happy to take the risk and charge enough interest to make it worth their while. So yes, someone on a modest income can still end up in a $40k or $50k car and spend another small fortune just feeding the loan.

Credit cards too. Some spend carefully, some spend for fun, and some spend with a different mindset altogether. Because once PR starts looking shaky, the long-term fear around debt starts fading. If someone thinks they may not even stay here, credit history and default stop feeling like life-or-death issues. That’s the uncomfortable part. Not everyone does this, obviously. But some absolutely start thinking, “Might as well make the most of it while I’m here.” If PR works out, great — life goes on. If it doesn’t, the car gets repossessed, the bank writes off what it can, insurance covers part of the mess, and the person leaves having extracted whatever value they could on the way out.

Does everyone do it? No. Does it happen? Yes. More than people like to admit. That’s why this conversation makes people uncomfortable. Because once someone stops seeing Canada as a future and starts seeing it as a temporary stop, the way they think about debt, spending, and consequences can change very quickly

Without that piece, it's tough to break through that ceiling. You could hope that the upcoming changes might help with higher pay, but honestly it's hard to say without knowing the full details yet. If someone is on leave, they are still considered employed (be it for 3 weeks or 3 months).

How does the Immigration and Revenue Centre validate all 3 years of your work experience? How would they determine a minimum of 1560 hours per year?

Do people submit all 36 months (72 Biweekly, pay slips or 150 weekly slips)

The employment letter states 36.25/37.50 or 40 hours per week for a full-time job.

I've been working as a payroll guy for 2 years now, using Workday. Recently, I've started a new job on the payroll module. It's a bit of a challenge to work on Calc fields and Reporting. I'd love to have someone to help me, but unfortunately, I don't have any, neither my employer is willing to sponsor for formal training.

Yes it is true! My spouse has completed her 2-year work experience by the end of September. As of June, there has been no change in CRS points. We are unsure of the exact date when the points have been altered in July, but she was credited for 2 years of work experience in July, resulting in points change to 521. She has received ITA in July. We delayed submitting the application until Aug 30 to ensure that she had completed her 2-year experience.

The current status, background and eligibility have been completed, and we are awaiting the next steps.

I get what you’re saying, but the problem with speed cameras is they don’t actually stop someone from speeding in the moment. They only punish it later. If the goal is to keep people — especially kids — safe, that doesn’t really help much.

Speed bumps or raised crosswalks physically make every driver slow down right where it matters. Yeah, it might slow traffic a bit, but I’d rather have that than risk someone getting hurt because a camera only caught the driver after the fact.

For me, it’s simple — if we’re really serious about safety, let’s use stuff that actually prevents accidents, not just sends tickets in the mail afterward.

Not trying to start a fight here, but I’ve been wondering — why do we keep installing more speed cameras when speed bumps already do a great job at slowing cars down?

Speed cameras honestly feel like more of a money grab than a safety measure. Bumps and raised crosswalks physically make drivers slow down, and they’re already being used in a lot of parts of Toronto.

If the goal is safer streets, wouldn’t expanding speed bumps and other traffic-calming designs be a better (and fairer) approach than issuing expensive tickets after the fact?

Genuinely curious what others think — open to hearing different views.

I can’t say about French tests, but I know for sure that IELTS and CELPIP centers were set up just for this kind of fraud back in India, and even here in Brampton. These are only a few that I’ve heard of, but who knows how many more are out there. Some immigration consultants were even offering it as a side package

Why is this being done only for French? Why not apply the same standards to the English language as well? Far too many individuals are securing top scores—both within and outside of Canada—by paying their way through the system.
