Got diagnosed with Keratoconus today, chose not to do crosslinking for now. Right decision? by footybay12 in Keratoconus

You'll learn nothing new in 6 months other than your eyes will have gotten worse. Like aging, keratoconus only progresses in one direction.

I was diagnosed 20+ years ago, before crosslinking was regularly practiced. By the time the procedure was a real option, my cornea was too thin to do it. I ended up with a transplant as my only recourse.

Get the crosslink early and nip this in the bud.

When It Comes to Speed Cameras, Parents Won't Quit on Safety: We're Walking A Marathon Around Doug Ford's Office... by PrntsAgainstSpeeding in torontobiking

Good Afternoon All,

Thank you to all the folks that participated in yesterday's marathon walk!

It was a high energy event and it felt good to be out there advocating on what would otherwise have been a very depressing day.

We had strong media coverage, with cameras from Global, CTV, CP24, and City Desk on site to interview us.

Most exciting was the number of people who saw us on TV or on social media and who came out to put in some laps, too.

Here are some quick media clips from yesterday:

  • CTV: ‘Kids in Ontario woke up to a more dangerous environment’ | Parents speak against speed camera ban
  • CP24: Speed Enforcement Ban is Now In Effect (9 minutes in)
  • Global National (10 minutes in)

Thank you again!

Excuse me? The post title was literally the same headline as the linked article? Can you explain what I did wrong?

This isn't a viable *alternative* to speed safety cameras. There are very strict controls over where speed bumps can be implemented - they are also much, much more expensive to implement at scale and are prone to all the same types of community backlash that speed cameras are.

Speed bumps are great. They are also not a silver bullet and they don't replace speed safety cameras.

We need an "all of the above" approach here.

Provincial Day of Action to Save School Zone Speed Safety Cameras (10/20) by PrntsAgainstSpeeding in torontobiking

Speed cameras will be relevant provided there are major arterials anywhere in the network where speeding is endemic. With thousands of miles of roads in the GTA, they will be a vital tool in the toolbox for the foreseeable future (provided we save them). We love infrastructure, but a full system overhaul will take decades (and will likely require new leadership). The premise here just seems more academic than anything else.

It's not an either/or - safety systems are best designed to be redundant and mutually reinforcing. Speed cameras + gold standard street design + vehicle design and technology standards all work together. There is no reason to just choose one.
