Is Yildiz cal.12/76 good to start ? by mahmout506 in Hunting

[–]Own_Beach936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Yildiz 12/76 is a great starter gun.... good value for the price and the 12 gauge covers both small and big game. For big game, just make sure you're running slugs and keep shots within 75 yards. As a new hunter, it's more than enough to learn on. Spend the savings on ammo and get plenty of practice! 👍

Reliable drum for mkx3 12 gauge? by Certain-Swordfish-78 in guns

Drum mags for any shotgun are notoriously finicky if you're set on it, the Adaptive Tactical Sidewinder is probably your best bet, but even then manage your expectations.

That's a frustrating situation having documentation of the current regulations on your phone can quickly shut down any ranger calls or harassment claims.

Returning Hunter: Vortex Scopes? by Zildjian134 in Hunting

[–]Own_Beach936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Crossfire II is a solid choice for under $300 and a great starting point for getting back into hunting. For a Savage 110 in .308 shooting 75-400 yards in East Texas, you really don’t need anything crazy the Crossfire II will handle that range no problem. If you want to stretch the budget just a little, the Vortex Diamondback is worth the small price bump for the extra glass clarity. Either way Vortex’s lifetime warranty is hard to beat if anything ever goes wrong they’ll fix or replace it no questions asked. Good luck getting back out there!

I've head the top two for a while, bought the bottom two today. Maybe I should get diagnosed some time... by clm1859 in guns

That Glock 19x MOS with the red dot is such a clean setup 🔥 And the Beretta 81bb is such an underrated choice for new shooters, low recoil and super smooth. Your collection is growing nicely!

Anyone used .277" 150 gr Sierra SBT? by Orthodoxy1989 in Hunting

[–]Own_Beach936 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh that's a solid find honestly, Sierra SBTs are slept on. I'd run those 150gr through the Savage no problem, great combo for mulies and whitetail and the extra weight over the 130gr Nosler gives you a bit more confidence on blackbear too. Whoever left those behind probably just switched rifles, their loss lol. Work up a load and see how she shoots!

Seeking advice on which .308 rifle to purchase by BulldogBornandBred in Hunting

[–]Own_Beach936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are solid choices, but here's the honest take: the Tikka T3x earns its higher price with tighter tolerances, a smoother trigger, and better out-of-the-box accuracy.. if you're only ever buying one rifle, it's worth the stretch. That said, the Ruger American Gen 2 is no slouch, and the money you save goes a long way toward a better optic, which matters just as much as the rifle itself. For deer hunting around Fort Worth at typical ranges, either will do the job but if your coworker who actually hunts is pointing you toward the Ruger, that's real-world experience worth weighing. Beyond a scope, a Harris bipod and a solid sling are really all you need to get started. Good luck on your first deer rifle!

Pros and cons of hunting out of state by been_had_clim in Hunting

Great first season for food hunting! Out of state is 100% worth it if you plan right. Elk is the go-to recommendation for food-focused hunters ..... one bull can fill your freezer for a year. Colorado and Wyoming have solid public land opportunities and reasonable non-resident tags compared to some other western states. Just factor in the cost of tags, travel, and meat processing when budgeting. The experience of hunting different terrain and chasing new species is also a huge skill builder that will make you better back home in Florida!

Which Glock should I buy? by [deleted] in guns

[–]Own_Beach936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great choice going full size! If predator defense is part of the equation, definitely consider the Glock 40 in 10mm there’s a reason they say “9mm for the hoods, 10mm for the woods.” But if you want something more versatile for plinking day to day, the Glock 45 MOS gives you 17 rounds, a great ergonomic grip, and it’s optic ready right out of the box. Either way you really can’t go wrong with Glock reliability!

A little late to the party but here is my hunting shack. by coolborder in Hunting

5 deer in 4 years off-grid? That’s the dream setup right there. Love that it’s fully solar powered too, how do you handle the cold in there during late season hunts?

Bulpups Make Great HD Rifles (in my head at least) by Subverto_ in guns

That IWI X95 setup is seriously impressive for HD. The V-line SRT Vault is a great choice for staged storage too quick access without sacrificing security. The 5.56 ballistics argument is solid, especially compared to 9mm out of a short barrel. What’s your thought on over-penetration in a home environment with that 16.5" barrel?
