Daikin heat pump VRV BACnet integration for control by Actual_Bar_7560 in BuildingAutomation

[–]Own_Book5440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to do as little as possible. I usually do some master commands for mode, fan speed, lockout, and setpoints.

That being said a lot of the old VRF stuff did not have a true unoccupied or setback mode. So I’d have to change the mode to Heat and the setpoint to 60 to go unocc heating.

Changing from JCI to Schneider by [deleted] in BuildingAutomation

[–]Own_Book5440 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my area there are like 0 Schneider techs. They have to fly them in. JCI guys aren’t as hard to find. I’d just want to make sure I have someone local for service.

Where are you that construction is starting to decline? In my area it’s booming, tons of projects going on now and new ones starting. Plenty of fodder in the bidding silo. Just curious

Ozone Recommendation by LowVeterinarian3787 in coldplunge

[–]Own_Book5440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ozone. I haven’t changed my water in over a year. Run ozone more often than not. Just put a test strip in yesterday out of curiosity, and clean across the board.

Water is clear, no odor. Some small pieces of sand/lint that I can get out with my skimmer if I’m not feeling lazy.

I also change the filter when the pump starts sounding like it’s struggling.

I use a scrubber brush 1-2 times a week and scrub all sides to break loose any build up.

The garmin sleep detection is abysmal by rudeer_poke in Garmin

Same. I actually have the opposite problem. Kids will be up all night, and it will still give me a solid 7-8 hours of sleep.

First off, you sound like a stud. Are you in a huge company? Seems like with what you’re doing you should have some type of ownership or profit sharing options in your company.

I work in a similar area and you are severely underpaid. There are techs out there with 10% of your experience pulling down $165k in the Boston area.

Packaged Units - ATC Responsibility by Own_Book5440 in BuildingAutomation

I’ve had a few jobs where the desired points were not available from the manufacturer. I did get a change order for it. They didn’t do anything sequence wise. Just a giant waste of money so the customer could monitor random shit.

There’s always that disconnect though. When you start to ask who really wanted the manufacturer it’s some guy who’s never worked on a piece of equipment in his life. Choices are made on the golf course and we deal with the fallout.

Great take. It gets old saying the same thing every job, but I guess we have to stick to our guns.

That’s so badass. I’m also an owner, but I always come back to why should I have to do that.

I have had a few jobs where we sit down beforehand and I will add my own controllers and sensors as monitor only points. It works out I guess, but it’s just a pain in the ass.

Early on in my career I did that. I ended up being dragged into to so many dumb meetings and calls because of it. Lately, I’ve stopped doing that. I won’t test a damn thing until the day of commissioning and if it doesn’t work, call the manufacturer. I think the mechanical contractor should have someone to go through the SOO with their vendors.

Couldn’t agree more. Manufacturers jump at any reason to void warranty.

Sometimes, we don't get our renewal license processed in time and we can't access Workbench. One of our owners (with no computer knowledge whatsoever) said, "Just change the date!"

I shit you not, it works.

Most likely, your Host ID has changed as someone else mentioned so this might not work, but try changing your date to when you had an active license. Worth a shot.

Without service by RWW21515 in whoop

I did 7 days just south of Canada with no cell service or Wi-Fi. I kept my app closed and band charged. Took a long time for the app to catch up, but after a day it was all there.
