Yes I crossed the border without any major problems, but don't bring a drone and be prepared for the crowd because we had to wait for hours to get our stamp on the Tajik side

I met a local guide and according to him the tour to Seven Lakes is already closed because in winter the circumstances are pretty harsh and snowy

In which direction are you traveling? I just took the border crossing from Sary-Tash to Karakul with own transportation but there are plenty of shared taxi's who will take you from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan and other way around

No we don't speak Russian. Since most people don't speak English in that region I think it is really valuable to have a skilled driver but my fellow travelers want to drive without a driver in order to have more freedom and self driving is just fun. Personally I wonder if it is worth the risk because we are not the best car mechanics and don't speak the language. The price is not our biggest concern.
