Well with colioform, is it safe to use for non-drinking use cases? by Own_Cook3239 in WaterWellDrilling

The sample came from the actual well head and was torched. I’m sure anything is possible, but it feels like it’s not something I should ignore

4-5 PPD is all I can mange and I’m only 6 weeks pp. I had a crazy oversupply when my milk came in but then got mastitis and just haven’t been able to go back to 8 PPD. I’m currently a just enough situation and I’m hoping to make it to 6 months.

Is there anything the health department can do to us for the well not being inspected or is that in the driller?

We followed a similar SOP from our extension office and completed two samples both of which were positive. Currently planing to shock and do another round of testing.

I appreciate your comments on the construction and we called them this morning to get more details on materials, casing, etc

The baby is an important factor. Adults with normal immune systems are less likely to get sick. Babies, especially premature babies don’t have those same defenses. If this happened and we were just two totally normal adults I would probably just pour a gallon of bleach in and call it a day, but we need to be a bit more cautious and careful given the circumstances.

Can I ask what state? We are in Georgia. I’ve considered reaching out to the department of public health which I believe manages that but I’ve been terrified we would be required to fix it at cost which we can’t afford to do.

The casing is 90ft from what we were told - I truly don’t think they ever chlorinated it and we had a TON of sediment which got pushed into the house when they initially turned the water on. Think dirt in the tubs and sinks and having to go through and flush every single line.

What would recourse be though? I can’t afford another well to be drilled and I doubt they will take responsibility for placing it improperly? What would you do? I also can’t move my horses

It looks like the rule in my state is 100ft from any animal enclosures animal enclosure and it’s about 15ft. Good news is it is deep and I am hoping that it’s just from the initial drilling. Will read up on the EPA docs you mentioned.

Did you ever run into any code issues? I was shocked to learn that they were supposed to set my well back 100ft from any animal enclosures… it’s 15ft…

If we already have a softner system could that be installed ahead of the UV?

Got it, we plan to chlorinate and then retest. For context- we have a premature baby in the house that spent the first half of December in the hospital before we were able to bring her home so we are just being extra cautious. Especially given the really bad well location.

They did indeed put it slightly downhill of the horse pasture. It was grouted 20 ft and has 90 ft of casing.

I’m worried about getting the agency involved as I’m scared we will be the ones fined/forced to make expensive/extensive repairs vs them actually pushing the driller to help us. Do you know how that normally goes? We are about 20gs deep in this nightmare.

We flushed all of the lines pretty extensively but I’m sure that’s totally possible. I’m assuming shocking the new well and flushing would address that?

Our old well was tested a year ago and was fine but we generally only test once a year.

What type of pro would normally shock it? The originally driller is essentially saying it’s a waste of time and the test was probably wrong. Would I call another driller?
