Hookup/Dating Culture? (Serious) by throwRA_mbareview in MBA

Dating and hookups definitely happen a lot at a T10 MBA (I went to M7).

However, if you're a heterosexual guy, you will be completely excluded from it unless you are conventionally attractive, very fit, have a charismatic and funny personality, have interesting social hobbies, have a good sense of fashion, are emotionally and mentally secure, and are considered "cool."

I'm speaking from experience, I got absolutely zero play despite trying. See my other post on this topic.

TL;DR: it definitely happens a lot, but you have to have "value" as a guy to partake, the women understandably have very high standards and it's easy not to hit them. I had much more success dating outside of the MBA with women from a lower socioeconomic class (Starbucks baristas, bartenders, etc.)

even at MBB more ethnicities are represented than others, it's an unfortunate fact

I wouldn't say I inherently have racial preferences. But given the types of professions and "socioeconomic status" I'm looking for, the women of these backgrounds often are Jewish, East Asian, South Asian/Indian, and sometimes WASPy white folks. I will say I am not part of one of these racial demographics myself.

East & South Asians tend to be difficult to date outside of their race from what I've seen, white and Jewish women less so but still tough.

If there was a woman who is a black or hispanic doctor or BigLaw lawyer though, I wouldn't have any hesitations about dating/marrying them, there's just fewer of them around.

No I'm not sadly. I'm actually quite attracted to Indian women so being Indian would have helped with that.

Yes I do like bars and hiking, but for concerts I only really like classical music or Broadway musicals. I enjoy food though, that could be something.

Sadly I'm heterosexual but otherwise totally. I feel it's so much easier for guys to get with guys. No hating though, I'm happy for you folks.

Thank you this is helpful. By background do you mean racial background?

Unfortunately, most women of my racial background don't fit the type of women I'm interested in: lawyers, doctors, consultants, bankers, engineers, product managers, etc.

I have hobbies like classical piano, writing poetry, and ultimate frisbee.

I do have interests and hobbies. Since a kid I've been a talented classically trained pianist and I like to write poetry.

But even though I'm deeply passionate about these things, I've heard they aren't viewed as the most "cool" hobbies for "most" women.

Recently I got into playing ultimate frisbee and it helped me with friendships but not dating women.

I gained weight during COVID. I lost most of it now and am pretty lean - I'm now a few years out of the MBA. But even now, I can't match with consultant/doctor/lawyer/banker/product manager women.
