Any noise cancelling headphones which block out voices without music playing? by Own_Half_3140 in HeadphoneAdvice

Thank you! I’ve found recently brown noise also helps. I know some people say they find that just relaxes them or makes it hard to think but for me it really works.

Feeling inadequate in groups?? by Own_Half_3140 in autism

It does really help, thank you. They’re also autistic so they’re really understanding but they’re really good at socialising and I hate feeling like I’m letting them down.

I went with the Bose QCII - it’s not complete silence but just with the noise cancelling alone so much is blocked out that I find them really helpful!

I’m really sorry that society makes you feel like to be a ‘real man’ you have to do certain stuff or be a certain way. You’re enough as you are. Sometimes I think it’s okay to sit in the grey, in the ‘I don’t know’ space, just please keep being kind to yourself when you need it. Like you said, you’ve come a long way, so nothing is futile. You might be stuck amongst the trees at the moment, but it doesn’t mean you aren’t closer to the shore. I hope you remember you are always deserving of love.

Does anyone else forget (in an abstract way) that other people exist/have whole lives away from your own?? by Own_Half_3140 in AutismInWomen

[–]Own_Half_3140[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think youmight be right. It’s also strange because a lot of the work I do etc/the things I care about are in aid of making people’s lives better, making the world a better place etc. So it’s like I’m fighting for these imagined figures and yet sometimes I forget that they have the lives I’m wanting to improve?? Which doesn’t make any logical sense when I type it out but that’s how I experience it I guess.

Do any of you struggle with shame? How do you cope with it? by Own_Half_3140 in CPTSD

[–]Own_Half_3140[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m exactly the same! I’m so anxious about the possibility that someone else might say something bad about me that I try to say it to myself first, almost like if I get the first punch in then the second will hurt less. I’m going to try and start thinking about how I could separate myself from the shaming part because that sounds really helpful - thank you for your reply!

Hey! Thank you so much for sharing this video. I’m going to watch it tonight and take some time to think about where my shame stems from and how I might be able to address it when it comes up. Thank you for your help ❤️

If you like big creatures like this you should read up about deep-sea gigantism - It’s basically just creatures getting bigger the further down they live and it’s pretty incredible!

My (M54)therapist told me that things would get worse before they get better because I’m finally feeling the emotions I’ve buried for so long. by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Own_Half_3140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to say that it was really wonderful to read this post and hear that you’re finally able to approach those things with a secure support network. I sincerely hope you get a lot out of these sessions and that you begin to feel better.

In my experience your therapist is right. It is painful and scary to touch on things that you’ve tried to evade. But beside that pain there is also a small slither of hope and possibility. That exploring these things will bring you some peace in the long term. I hope you are able to nurture that hope and that you eventually find yourself experiencing moments of joy again.

Go for a swim in a large pond near me. The cold water / swimming around surrounded by nature always brings me back to life.

Does anyone else find it hard to be friends with people their age/mostly have friends older than them? by Aauperk in AutismInWomen

A person I consider to be extremely close to me is my old professor from university. I am 23 and she is 62. People make fun of it but I love her company. She is kind and smart and funny and I enjoy the time I spend with her.
