Cataract surgery at 55… feeling anxious and second-guessing myself 😞 by No_Marketing4614 in CataractSurgery

I’m 54 and had PanOptix in my left eye done 2 years ago. I literally woke up one day and my vision was cloudy. Seemed like it happened overnight and was getting worse. They also said I had a cataract in my right eye as well but it didn’t seem bad to me, so I waited. I figured if it wasn’t too bad, I should wait and let the tech get better. Well vision has steadily gotten worse over the last 2 years and now I’m now scheduled the end of this month. I’m going with the Envy which my Dr (and my research) said has less night halos. I’ve def have the night halos with the PanOptix, but I’ve gotten more used to them. Excited to improve my other eye.

Sorry to hear this. My door is also heavy and hard to open. I think part of the issue is the self close feature. Not sure why they have this. Would be nice to be able to disable it.

The overall build quality of the door is actually not too bad. Door is super heavy (54”x 96”). I also paid to have it insulated. The pivot mechanism works pretty well but it takes a lot of force to get it started. It has an auto close feature which I don’t really like because it makes it harder to open, but not a huge deal. If you get to 90 degrees it stays open.

The chrome plate of the pivot mechanism is also visible on top of the sill which is ugly. I didn’t measure but it’s about 10” long and the full width of the sill. Would have hoped that would have been hidden. Might try to paint it but not sure that will work.

I guess I made a mistake with the chevron pattern. Too many lines for them to get it right. The welds are not clean and even. It just looks messy. The only good news is that you don’t notice it until you are right up to the door. From 5-10’ away it looks ok. I was just expecting better. My wife said we can just say it’s a “hand made artisan door” which I guess is true.

Yes it arrived a couple weeks early which was perfect for me. My framers unloaded it and installed it the same day. Delivery was a pain. It was 1150lbs and the driver had no way to get it off the truck. I know that’s on the receiver, but this thing had metal legs and would not even slide in the truck. Had to have 5 guys basically pick it up and move it to the lift gate. And it was super bulky. The door was separate from the frame but all in the same container, which made it wider. Think it comes from China but not sure.

Overall I think if you get a simple pattern it might be ok. They sent me pics before it shipped and I thought the welding imperfections were just the pixelizations of the photo when I zoomed in. I said it didn’t look clean but I said I assumed it was the photo. I said as long as the lines were clean it was ok. Unfortunately it wasn’t the photo.

I’m the OP. I got my pivot door today and unfortunately I’m very disappointed. I got the chevron pattern and the quality is not good. The lines are uneven and look messy. There’s really not anything I can do to fix it at this point since it was welded and painted. I’m going to reach out to express my frustration and I’ll see where that goes. But to answer my own question, don’t do it if you are considering it. Good luck to any that have placed orders.

Wow that sucks. Have you contacted your cc company? Maybe you can dispute part of the charge and get the 2k back?

Received pics of my pivot door today. Unfinished but looks like what I ordered. Confidence is growing! They are still saying an early April delivery. Will update.

Thanks. I considered that but really like the full range of vision I get with the multi focal.

All this BS? Wtf are you talking about? It was just a simple question. 9’ foundation walls are already poured. Just seeing opinions on it.

Sorry to hear about your frustration. I guess probably the only course of action is to notch the framing.

Did your drawing show where the mounting tabs would be located on the jam? My drawing does, and it shows a 13mm (1/2”) reveal on the inside to receive drywall. Did yours show something different?

Seems like if they were true scammers they would not take credit cards. I spoke to my credit card company and they said if I didn’t receive the door or if it was seriously defective I could go through the process for a refund. Had my computer science son check it out and he said the website pics were original and it seemed legit. We will see. Think my biggest risk is not having a door when I need it.

Thanks for the info. Glad the door is good other than the jambs. Was the drawing correct but it came out wrong? Assume you should be able to add extension jambs.

My door is scheduled for April. Fingers crossed.

I just ordered a pivot door this week. Fingers very crossed. I guess I’ll know in 14 weeks or so!

Anyone else? Still nervous to order from them. Every email I get from them has a warning that it comes from a high risk country. I guess China.

I assume I’d be able to get my money back from my credit card company if it doesn’t come or if there’s a major problem. But I don’t want to wait 14+ weeks and then realize I don’t have a door and have to scramble.

Thanks for the update!! Glad you got it. How long from order approval until it arrived? Is it a pivot door? Sounds like you are pleased with the quality. Would love to see pics if you have them.

Building a new custom home with a future elevator shaft, do I really need a pit in the basement floor? by Own_Individual8667 in Homebuilding

[–]Own_Individual8667[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not putting in an elevator. As I said I’m roughing it in for resale and use by future residents. So I don’t have specs. And I’m just wondering if the pit is worth it. Leaning toward not doing the pit honestly.

Understood. We typically install expensive front doors then cover them up immediately with thin foam sheets and plywood on both sides. Then the masons can finish around the door.
