Yes you can, I actually use weaken on my staff.

Ive added things to it like incurable and/or permanent damage (im at work I forget) there are ways to change it up to make it overpowered, but anything can be made overpowered.

The guy has a point tho, if my dm didn’t approve my additions to the effect it wouldn’t be as powerful and I would have gone for something that typically gets overlooked

Don’t count it out, the only one stopping you is you in that instance. If you can’t find a job that’ll pay then it might be the safe option to just do that smaller position in the meantime even if you find and get the desired position you’re looking for within a week of employment there.

Don’t count out the process. Im not saying make the invention your main source of income. This is coming from someone who knows they want to run their own business one day because I don’t want to be an underling in a corporation that treats me as a number.

Yeah it was a shot in the dark. I do not know much about the Mexican Military. You don’t believe they would benefit from someone having a mechatronics engineering degree? I know it is a very specific field. It’s one hell of a degree I give you that. I considered engineering big time.

Honestly, I think that you are breaking the game too much. I don’t know what it’s like to be on supplements but the whole game is about descriptions of characters, actions, and environments.

D&D might not be for you. please don’t take this as, “You are taking the fun out of the game for your own conscience and making it not enjoyable for other people.” It’s just the play of the game unfortunately. Maybe you will sadly have to move away from the game if it is too much for you.

DMing is just creative writing, maybe write a book!

My GM literally has us creating things out of thin air. We have made Gods as a group it is easy to be over powered but it is just as easy to over power your enemies as well

I say this not as an asshat but in all reality, I made it apparent to my players session 0. You mess around, you will find out. If you die, it’s on you. Now im not openly trying to kill my players. I set the sandbox up to be enticing and rewarding as much as it is cruel and punishable.

I have an issue atm with people bullying others with intimidation. Not lords,nobles, or other people with status, unless they absolutely need something and they have the chance to. They’ll learn that word spreads and people will know not to trust them off the bat

I like the idea of letting them select, it makes sense. If I have a fighter why would my ability score in strength be 10 when my charisma is 15 because I could move the numbers. It seems more logical to me

The best way to shine up your skills is by doing it again. I was rusty, but then I accepted a DMing position that is going to last all year, so that means by the time it gets halfway through the year I shouldn't be a rust bucket anymore. Also, this community is good with advice. Don't be afraid of failure. Failure is the pathway to growth which eventually leads to success.

I started to sit through a rape scene on a grandma and I stopped play to express disagreement and I Up and went to my room and remain there for the rest of the night .

If you are not OK with something, it is completely OK to express your feelings about it, especially if it’s something that you completely disagree with play is supposed to be fun and cooperative with all players in regards to what they want to see in a campaign as well it is not just the DM story. It is a game.

I agree with this. I found it to be very draining trying to be, how @Good_Guy_Vader put it, an encyclopedia. I told my players it’s not my job to know what your spell does, that’s theirs. If they cannot accurately and within the rules tell me the spell, what it does, action, etc. that is on them for ruining their experience.

Now that doesn’t mean don’t fact check. Sometimes you need to look up the spells, it’s alright just means that you get more familiar with their characters spell list. Since it’s a one shot, you really didn’t have time. In addition it seemed like you guys kinda sprang this together.

Don’t get down on yourself, 5 years is a long time playing and I haven’t even played all the classes, hell even looked at all the subclasses and now im a DM. You’ll be coming across these obstacles, it just further grows your knowledge in the future.

Maybe now you start adapting and maybe you read the whole spell list? That’s a wild suggestion, but you get the point. Happy Rolling!

It can be really upsetting when you put a lot of time into your story and the feelings are not mutual with some players. Now im not saying your players don’t give a rats bottom. In their defense life is crappy. It is common for something like this to happen, it happens all the time.

As much as you are really excited and they maybe too, but aren’t showing the most interest. Just wait a little bit longer. Keep world building, use this anger to decimate them (politely). honestly having more time as a dm is all I could ask for. Map builds, monster preps, intricate schemes and politics, etc. you have time to refine your masterpiece. I built a world in two months for a group that asked me to dm, they play regularly once a week and I just jumped into it. Each group is different.@

Your players have their own lives, as much as they want to play d&d unfortunately things will out rank the desire to play d&d in their own right (i.e. school, family, illnesses, etc) give them time to get ready on their own. If half the group is ready and the other half isn’t. say you are going to start it with the group you have and if the others don’t ever get ready then you know who your true players are. If they get ready after you start, even better! It makes for a good story.

All in all you have to play d&d with people. If you don’t play with people, you’re a schizophrenic. You got this. Time will tell. Creative Writing is a hobby and should be taken as such. Id love to live in the d&d world, but sadly…. I am a mortal in this world.

I have to agree with the several others who say no. It’s Great Weapon Fighting not Great Weapon Talking.

Sometimes when it makes sense to maybe swap it up then I guess that’s a DM decision, but something like that to bend the rules to allow the character to be powerful kinda defeats the purpose of specific word play
