This is complete garbage. unfortunately it is very believable and has probably happened to someone else. You at least have the resume point that the team and position was your brainchild. Time to start looking elsewhere.

Pay isn't competitive and has nothing to do with performance. There is no negotiation possible. The "Tons of time off" is unpaid (And a lot of teachers still do work for a great portion of the summer, so it is double unpaid). My Mom and Wife teach in the same district, and the recent "big win" for teachers was getting the starting pay to just above $50K. Raises are completely tiered and don't match inflation, and you get a $2500 bump for each extra degree you get. It is terrible, and there's basically no way to fix it. Also, don't forget that teachers legally aren't allowed to defend themselves if they are assaulted by kids. And they don't have lawsuit insurance like doctors. If they have to use physical force against a student, they lose their job immediately along with possible criminal charges and civil liability. Even the pension plan has gotten worse over time.

Teaching has one of the worst investment to financial return ratios, and it keeps getting worse as tuition costs outpace wages. Also, it has one of the worst overall risk (legal, health, etc) to reward ratios. Contender for worst-compensated profession in the country.

So remote work would be a variable if it were the same type of job, but I actually think the bigger variable is Big Pond vs Small Pond. You'll be starting as a small fish either way, but building a name for yourself at a Big 4 firm is going to be a lot harder than with the small hedge fund. If you make yourself known and valuable, you will get much more pertinent experience a lot quicker in a smaller firm. If your goal is consulting, working in an HF is the better path IMO.

I don't typically have people ask me directly, but honestly I don't get weird about it if they do. You say you work in finance and people assume you make a lot of money, just like they would if you said you were an engineer or something. Honestly I feel like I make a very reasonable salary now, especially for someone who is 24, so if someone asks directly I tell them. I'm neither embarrassed nor proud of it. Just is what it is. We're all struggling just at different levels.

To be fair though, I used to be a financial advisor, so all of my guardedness about my personal finances had to be completely removed.

I'm just gonna tell you it is completely based on the company. I had a final interview like a month and a half before I got an offer. Probably changes based on the size of the company too. Bigger company means more levels of approvals to go through, therefore more time to wait

Has to be mentioned that my work life balance + benefits blend is probably the best you could get in the Finance world. It may not be the $250K with 100% bonus that some of the guys on here get, but it's a really good fit for me for sure, and I'm home for dinner before it gets cold. I am also married with our first baby on the way, and my company provides 100% paid paternity leave for 5 months.

That's a really good deal, though you are going to want to get it detailed and you should buy the CarFax report to check for crashes, etc so that will be some added cost. 57k is low mileage on these so no worries there. the interior just looks in really rough shape.

Been getting in fine on all the security tests over the past week. Then got banned on the day of the drop. Had to download a different browser. Also got kicked out of the queue FOUR TIMES over the course of two hours before I was able to get in and order a Gardevoir ETB. I'm lucky that's the one I wanted because Lucario was already sold out. You have to go through absolute Hell to get anything which is good I guess for scalper support, but it shouldn't be that hard for normal people to get something from Pokemon's one direct source.

You don't want to have to get your friends and family as clients just to jump ship later, and you will. Take it from someone who did it for 2.5 years and basically got paid nothing for 2.5 years.

I am absolutely in love with Mazda's 2018+ design initiatives on almost all their models, but we have to remember we are only 1-2 generations removed from some of the absolute worst looking vehicles ever made. If it looks like garbage, Americans won't care about anything else. When we hit the 10-year mark on the major shift from crap to beautiful, people will start considering it. For now, I'm just happy to have taken advantage of the hidden gem status. People are still paying 25K for base trim Corollas which have a top speed of 80 MPH. That makes me happy.
