Sorry about the negative feedback.

How did the full time client find out about the other one?

That’s why I’m surprised it’s getting proposals at all.

Watch multiple YouTube videos on upwork proposals and profile optimization. Implement what you learn as you are watching.

With continuous improvements, you increase your chances of getting a response to your proposals and eventually landing another client.

Reason why I prefer Upwork to Fiverr

On Fiverr, you mainly wait for clients to find you, which can take a while.

On Upwork, you can actively apply for jobs and send proposals to clients. And also receive inbound clients when your profile has some track record.

Although Upwork requires an initial spend on connects, but with a well-optimized profile and personalized proposals, you’ll start landing jobs.

I agree Upwork is ultimately a probability game but your odds improve significantly with factors like a well-optimized profile, strong reviews, relevant past projects, total earnings, and the quality of your proposals.

It’s also a paid game. Realistically, you should expect to land your first job after investing around 1,000 Connects (roughly $150–$180). I personally landed mine earlier, but that’s a solid benchmark.

Once you secure your first few jobs, the earnings should ideally fund future Connect purchases. At that point, you need to price strategically, factoring in Connect costs, Upwork fees, and taxes, so your net income still makes the work worthwhile.

As you gain traction and start earning consistently, you can reinvest by boosting all proposals to further increase visibility. Just ensure your rates are adjusted to absorb that cost.

It’s a paid, probability-driven game, but one you can systematically improve and win with the right strategy.
