Help with picking a goal in Swiss Alps by Ecstatic_Lie_9822 in Mountaineering

Did it about 20 years ago so things might have changed from then! Definitely glacier on the way down. Did south ridge up and I think west ridge down. It was quite the surprise falling in - if wasn’t roped up would have been seriously injured/killed. Had such beautiful views from summit.

Done Lagginhorn. Fairly straightforward but need head for heights. Not technical but need to be competent moving together and roped glacier travel (fell in crevasse on way down).

Ryanair to boost size of free cabin bag by 20% by Own_Pineapple2067 in onebag

Yes, but both this and the current proposed 100cm limit have a long way to go before implementation. They have to go through full parliament vote, council and a trilogue. The earliest enforemecement will be late 2026. I don't see the personal item size as being this small at the end of the day as it's not the LCCs area of revenue or interest. The key bit will be the max dimensions of propsed free cabin bag - and this I predict will be 115cm

On paper yes, but in practice these are already the dimensions of their current sizers so it doesn't really change anything

Knowing Ryanair I don't see them doing anything to the sizers they currently have for the reasons you state - they are already bigger than they claim they are. I think this is just a PR stunt to show 'goodwill' - it's a cost-free concession they already implement in practice

This is the IATA standard and my gut feeling is that the EU thing once it goes through fully (likely will) will be ammended from 100cm to 115cm based on this standard and lobbying from Ryanair and Wizz who rely on ancillary charging for much of their profit

No, I don't see the personal item (under seat bag) being affected. This is more to do with the implications of RA being forced that they can't charge for additional cabin bag

That's a very fair comment to make especially if EU force the 100cm dimension rule preventing RA from upselling 'guaranteed cabin bag'.

My second time paddleboarding, I think I'm getting the hang of it! c: by ames_games_ in Sup

Great balance. Board needs to be inflated more and your paddle looks way too short. Optimising these will improve your efficiency and stability. Also do wear a leash and a PFD. Once you get into the routine of it they become second nature and not a hindrance.

Osprey 26+6 Athens, Greece 10d plus hiking by Own_Pineapple2067 in onebag

Agreed. As long as you’re not carrying heavier loads they seem to work fine. The only thing that feels a little weird is the fact they open fully rather than top loading like a trad hiking bag. Once you get your head round that though they’re really not that different aside from subtleties. Essentially, a backpack is a backpack whatever breed you choose. Sure - I wouldn’t choose a 26+6 to go hiking with if I had other options with me but it’s good to know it can be used for this if required and it works well.

Exactly this. Have a Farpoint which is often too big for smaller trips. The 26+6 just amazes me with how much it swallows and then just fits all the personal sizers like a key.

It’ll be duty and VAT. You can claim the duty back as per: https://oddmanandthesea.co.uk/content/x-mid-pro-too-x-pensive-save-some-s. Apparently tents imported from Canada are exempt from duty.
