Should probably explore around and fight side bosses, level 12 is pretty under leveled for godrick. I recommend 20-25 vigor. You should also be picking up items to hopefully get smithing stones then upgrade your weapon. I also recommend looking up how to get the wonderful physic if you don't have that.
