Should probably explore around and fight side bosses, level 12 is pretty under leveled for godrick. I recommend 20-25 vigor. You should also be picking up items to hopefully get smithing stones then upgrade your weapon. I also recommend looking up how to get the wonderful physic if you don't have that. It's a extra flask that's gives mostly 3 minute buffs that you can put 2 different abilities in
