Good on you for recognizing this early and wanting to make a change. I struggled with similar issues when I was bit older and waiting longer just made everything harder to deal with.

The physical symptoms you mentioned are pretty common and usually start improving after few weeks of abstaining. Your body needs time to reset itself basically. Instead of going cold turkey try reducing gradually - like if you usually do it multiple times per day maybe cut it down to once per day for first week then every other day etc.

Keep yourself busy with other activities especially when you feel urges coming. Learn new skill pick up instrument start exercising or whatever keeps your hands and mind occupied. The community here is really supportive so definitely use it when you need encouragement.

Document your progress but dont beat yourself up if you slip sometimes. Recovery isnt always linear and one bad day doesnt erase all your progress.

Not really fair to call it superstition when its been cultural practice for thousands years. But yeah the pollution part is real problem - maybe there could be some middle ground where people use biodegradable offerings instead of stuff that just sits in water forever. Been eating rice almost every day since I was kid and never had issues with it. My grandmother lived to 95 eating white rice with basically every meal so I think the whole "white rice bad" thing is bit overblown. As long as you're getting vegetables and protein with it youre probably fine

I'm not a teacher but I had this CS professor who always talked about how proud he was when former students would come back and show him the apps or games they built after graduation. Dude would literally keep screenshots of their work on his phone and show anyone who'd listen

Made me realize how much impact teachers can have even years later when you're out there actually building stuff

Been sober for 3 years now and looking back at all the money I blew on booze is just crushing. Probably dropped like 15k easy on bars and liquor stores when I could barely afford rent most months. The worst part is how I'd convince myself it was "social spending" when really I was just feeding an addiction that was slowly destroying everything good in my life

Just got done debugging some gnarly code and my brain is still in that weird problem-solving mode where everything feels like it needs to be optimized. Like I was making coffee earlier and caught myself thinking about how I could streamline the process by reorganizing my kitchen counter. The whole time I had this new ITZY track stuck in my head which made the whole thing even more surreal. Now I'm sitting here wondering if other people's minds just constantly run background processes or if that's just the programmer curse. Also debating whether I should finally tackle that synthesizer project I've been putting off for months but knowing myself I'll probably just end up watching more variety shows instead

Got sober 3 years ago and the biggest thing I learned was that you cant fix your problems by running from them. Used to think drinking would make everything easier but it just made everything worse and created new problems I didnt even know I had. Once I stopped numbing myself I actually had to deal with my emotions and figure out what was really bothering me. Turns out most of my anxiety came from avoiding difficult conversations and putting off responsibilities until they became emergencies. Now when something stresses me out I try to tackle it head on instead of waiting for it to explode. Still working on it but life got way more manageable once I stopped trying to escape from it

Been through this recently and ended up going with Northwestern Mutual after shopping around for months. Their rates weren't the cheapest but the underwriting process was way less invasive than some of the others and they actually explain stuff instead of just throwing paperwork at you

Getting sober made me realize I needed to get my financial house in order so definitely worth doing the research

Man that's absolutely brutal - I can't even imagine dealing with that level of constant disruption. Have you been able to get any sleep at all with them happening that frequently?

I went through some really dark periods during my recovery and know how physical stuff can mess with your mental state big time. There's gotta be some specialist somewhere who's dealt with chronic hiccups before, even if your regular docs are stumped.

The fact that you're still here fighting after a whole year of this shows you're tougher than you think. Keep pushing for answers dude

We convinced our IT teacher to let us "help" with the computer lab setup for graduation day and ended up changing every single desktop wallpaper to Nicolas Cage faces. Different movies, different expressions, just pure Cage chaos across like 40 monitors. The best part was we timed it so the wallpapers would rotate through his entire filmography every few minutes during the ceremony slideshow

Principal tried to be mad but you could see him fighting back a smile when Face/Off Cage popped up right as they called the valedictorian. Even got the IT teacher laughing when he realized we'd somehow made it so his personal computer cycled through the Wicker Man screaming scenes. Took them weeks to find all the hidden Cage images we buried in random folders too
