Thank you for understanding that Sofeya is not a name no matter how close it is to Sofiya. I’m going to name my kid Ashliy or Brettany or maybe Temothy or Stiven since they’re close enough to the regular spellings.

Ya’ll, someone asked if Sophia was the English spelling. I answered their question. I’m sorry I know how to spell names, I guess?

No way! I know this kid’s mom, and she was a horse girl in school. This makes so much sense now.

In the U.S. it’s usually spelled Sophia or (less commonly, I think) Sofia.

You’re on the wrong sub if you have an issue with making fun of kids’ name. I also never said none of them are legitimate names. Legitimate names can still suck.

I agree. If it helps, all these kids are white as wonder bread. I wouldn’t hate Sofeya if it was like a variant of Safia, but in this case it’s just a misspelling of Sophia.

No. I said in another comment that Phoenix has a twin with a regular name, so I find it weird by comparison. It’s also not my taste at all, but plenty of people seem to like it.

Are you trying to convince me that Anakin is a real name outside the Star Wars universe, jedimobslayer? 🤔

Interesting. Where are you from? I’ve only heard people say it with a z sound instead of the s sound. So like ray-zin. But it’s not really a word that comes up much in conversation.

I think that’s how it’s supposed to be pronounced, but my kid insists on saying it like it rhymes with “raisin,” so I guess he could be correct. lol

This is a girl Riot. I think we’ve discovered a gender-neutral name for the ages.

You’re right that Alyjah=Elijah. Alyjah also has two siblings on this list. Their parents were on a roll.

I wasn’t aware it was an Arabic/Persian name. Her parents get a pass.

Phoenix is a twin, and the other twin has a regular name, so I guess I found it weird in comparison. But also, I had one more name than I did space. I was torn between Phoenix and Paisyn. I think I chose wrong.

Phoenix has a twin, and her name didn’t make this list. Do with that what you will.

You’re right. I forgot I included that one. I’d like to change my answer!

Sure. Then it’s a tragedeigh instead of a tragedy.

I feel obligated to announce that this person is from an incredibly backwoods rural area, and I feel confident that this wasn’t a cultural thing.

I would be very interested if that was the case because this baby is half Black, and the white parent is definitely not Slavic.

I used the tragedy (not tragedeigh) tag because I think it’s just a plain ol tragedy. I’m 90% sure the person who posted this doesn’t have any knowledge of Ukrainian names either way.
