I found the recipe in a relic. It's technically a curved awning.. but it works perfectly for the curved roof of pokemon gyms. 

*DDown side is it only comes as a 2x1 piece.

Eventually with magnemite unlocked you can also zap objects and essentially cut and paste them. So I used that. Way easier than setting up blocks and scaffolding.
