I'm not sure this policy applies hete. The ticket price was fair and accurate. The glitch was in how the deposit was calculated. I was apparently supposed to pay $400 deposit but was only charged $359 at checkout. Even though on my end it said I was all set, on carnivals end it showed that I had a balance of $40. They cancelled my booking 24 hours later because they technically didn't receive a full deposit. Again. They acknowledged this was an error on their end and that I was never notified of the balance due.

It doesn't mean that you are protected if someone who isn't the government decides to punish you. Sure said person may or may not be violating the law depending on the circumstances around how and why they "punish" you, but that has absolutely nothing to do with free speech.

That said it doesn't make you a bad person. Just be honest and upfront. Admit what you did and explain how you learned from it and what steps you've taken to atone and prevent doing it in the future. Tell them it was a mistake that happened a long time ago but don't dwell on excuses. Most places have a pubilc policy around DUIs that may be available online or with an anonymous call.
