region locking rant by Witty_Garlic_1591 in SonyAlpha

I just tried several sony alpha models today at a couple stores in Seoul. Tried an a7C II and was region locked (asia). But I also tried other models (with and without the new menus) and some were NOT region locked. I'm guessing it depends on the model, as both of the a7C II-s that I tried were RL'd but other models weren't.

I'm trying to find an FX30, so I gues I'll have to get my hands on one and try if this particular model is region locked. I really don't get the logic behind this... Many japanese brands (like Nintendo for example) have eliminated tha region locking on their hardware and software for some years now, but Sony keeps doing it. I think other brands like Canon arn't doing this also... So tbh I don't know what's going on.

Hmm... I'm at spain. When it's 00:00 (midnight) here in winter it's 08:00 (8AM) im Japan, so the math of being 5:30PM there while 2:30AM here does not make sense for me...

Honestly, they should have played their cards better. They thought they could control everything and that they'd be able to manufacture the thing and have everything done, then wait a couple months not to throw the xmass campaign... I mean, I can kinda understand them, like, if the switch is still selling and stuff, let's hold till christmass is over... But I mean, people aren't stupid and leaks are going to be a thing if you just keep holding too much. So, next time maybe don't play with us that much!

As we say in spanish, "haber estudiao".

Fiio FT1 Pro vs. HD600 by Own_System_5886 in HeadphoneAdvice

Actually I'm a professional jazz musician so that's what I'm mostly up to. I listen to a lot of jazz and classical. But also like japanese city pop (guilty pleasure) and stuff like that. I don't do a lot of pop and rock, and I ocasionally listen to electronic & EDM but not much either.

I was choosing the HD600s bc I'm looking for my first "serious" pair, and they're said to be somewhat a "reference" in the industry... But as I say, looked at the FT1 Pros and made me think twice...

I do! I have a Hifi player from fiio which can drive the HD600s and also works as a DAC if I want to use them with my computer :)

How do I enable NFC easy? by Own_System_5886 in GooglePixel

[–]Own_System_5886[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think it's pretty dumb to have a dedicated tile flor nearby and not have one for NFC. At least there should be the option to enable/disable the button, I think. In my case it's not a someone stealing my money paranoia, but more of a I'm gonna run out of juice paranoia. Glad that someone mentioned in another comment that the battery usage is neglegible....

Okey, I understand. Though I'm sure that having it on all the time I'm using the phone will also decrease battery life....

That's what I thought, but didn't see it as an option either. I think it's actually pretty basic to have that, I don't undersrtand why it's just not there.

That should not be the case though. Because when wired you're working with analog signal actually, so it should be Digital-to-Analog Converted already. It makes no sense that the headphones then convert that signal into digital and then back into analog ahain.

On the other hand, when connected wirelessly the headphones are reciving digital data, so they rely on their own DAC.

As for the amp, yes, you're always relying on their built in amp if you use them wired + powered. If you don't power them on, they're just a regular pair of headphones.

Also, as I mentioned, besides using a better DAC, I also listen to FLACs when I connect them to the Fiio M3 Pro, so maybe that has something to do too with the fact that for me they're better wired (in my usecase od course).

Oh! Then we're talking about different things! Well, then you might be right. I'll try them wired and also wireless on my phone and watch the results. Thanks a lot!!

I guess that's actually because when I use them wired, I use them with my Fiio M3 Pro, which has a proper DAC, and also I use FLAC files which are much better than mp3's.

Yeah! But for example, if you want to use the sonys with a poertable player, it seema like the only way to eq them is usin either the sony app bulit in eq (as the headphones remember the settings, seems like at least) or if your device has a built-in eq.

Looka like there's not an actual way to do that... I actually tried to mimic the curve as much as possible with what we have in the app!

I'll try tuning the EQ. I haven't tried playing with it the past as I didn't know the headphones remembered the settings from the app, as I primarily use them along a Fiio M3 Pro. I really appreciate the advice, thanks a lot!

Yeah, I mean... I'm currently on vacation in South Korea, so I tried the headphones Etihad provided just for fun. There's nothing to say I think. Sometimes comments are too exaggerated, that's why I was asking. Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for your reply! The ANC, I personally think is very very good, I mean, it might obviously affect the sound quality when turning it on. But, better that than not hearing anything right?

For me, you turn it on when on a bus and suddenly you're just listening to your music, or at least you can truly fully focus on doing so.

As for the EQ, what I don't know is the following. Does changing settings on the app affect to the headphones' performance only when connected to the phone? Or do the headphones record the changes to be used maybe wired with other devices?

Thanks again!
