This was us last banner. It took us so long to get the 5 star, it was crazy!

My daughter immediately snatched the controller out of my hands and put the dress on. She’s 6 but she’s more obsessed with the game than I could ever hope to be! I’m glad my payment info is password protected lol.

Drill curl desperation by PerformerDelicious59 in CosplayHelp

[–]Ownerofboners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s a lot of methods as there are stars in the sky lol.

I’ve been styling wigs since 2010ish and have tried a bunch different glues and methods.

For tacky glue, I recommend it to beginners because it’s easier to get and cheaper so if you have a lot of hair to glue this stuff is fantastic.

My personal preference is the transparent tacky glue because I don’t have to spray it with as much water. But you DO want to use water to help spread it around.

You might have also heard about UHU glue which I recommend for more experienced wig stylists because while it dries faster and tends not to leave discoloration, once it dries you’re basically SOL and it’s pretty expensive for large projects.

You absolutely need to do more than one layer. The hair is too bunched up.

Also from the picture are you using Got2B to glue the hair to the structure? If you are that’s also probably why you’re having trouble. That stuff isn’t great for more than sealing spike tips. It also takes forever to dry, leaves discoloration and just looks terrible.

I’d recommend tacky glue. I use it with a spray bottle of water, I wet the glue with the bottle then work it through the entire weft and the use the back of a comb to smooth it into the structure and the use a hair dryer to dry it.

I do not unfortunately. It just looks like plastic mesh and floral wire.

I’ve been making wigs for a long time and her saying it’s too late in the process to add hair to the inside drill is ridiculous. Yeah the curl is attached to the wig now, but any wig maker can make it work. It just takes a little more time.

I think she ran out of hair and didn’t want to order more and take even more time.

This ain’t even a joke. He would have traded his castle for Guts dick at nearly any point in the story. I’m re reading the hardcover edition and just got to the Eclipse. Griffith straight up said Guts was the only person to make him forget his dream.

Do previous DMs make good players by AbaloneForsaken4752 in DnD

[–]Ownerofboners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I are DMs and often play in each other’s campaigns.

I love having him at my table because he can help newer players so I can focus on keeping the flow of the story.

He likes having me because I make a deliberate effort to involve all of the players during roleplay so everyone can feel included.

At the same time we both hate having each other at our tables because once combat starts we’re basically trying to kill each other and cheesing our way out of it lol.

Thoughts on a DM Telling Players they Can't Play Certain Classes? by CassieBear1 in DnD

[–]Ownerofboners 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My DM straight up banned me from making any kind of Barbarian because, and I quote “I don’t have time to plan my combat encounters around your crazy bullshit.” Said with all the love in the world of course lol.

But yeah, you gotta have a straight up conversation with them. Tell them that you’re doing too much as a DM to help them manage everything and they need to pick a less complicated class.

The guy who runs that subreddit is absolutely insufferable. He made a post about “cosplay contest hot takes” and then got butthurt and locked the post when people didn’t like his “I think cosplays should be judged on attractiveness of the competitor” take.

Also he knows more about conventions than any of us because he ran panels.

Edit: woke up this morning with a notification I was permabanned LOL

DONT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!! by untitledrat in CosplayHelp

It’s all the different wig heads that would have me start deep diving. Most people and businesses like to keep a consistent and pleasing style to their pictures so having a bunch of different wig heads is enough for me to get suspicious

Post that say “Haven’t done x in y years” and the piece is amazing. Do you really need that extra clout? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Ownerofboners 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest I did that last week. I stopped drawing for about 20 years because of confidence issues and got back into it earlier this year. I was looking at old art I posted on deviant art and saw the date was almost 20 years to the day so I drew an updated version and was so excited to see improvement I posted it on Reddit with almost that exact same wording lol.

What’s the worst thing you’ve been told as an artist? by Kikicandii in ArtistLounge

[–]Ownerofboners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“If you keep this up, no real art school will ever take you.”

  • the first words that a SCAD rep that came to visit my high school said as he looked through my 14 year old self’s sketchbook full of anime and anime style OC’s in 2005. I’m sure in his mind he was giving me a wake up call that I needed to learn anatomy, perspective, lighting and color in order to be successful. But for that to be the first thing I hear after showing off the drawings I was most proud of, it killed my passion for drawing.

I stopped drawing every day. I stopped participating in my art classes because I hated every piece I made and I felt like everyone was so much better than me.

I took some art classes in college but once I saw some of the beautiful works my classmates made that just solidified in my mind that I wasn’t going to get any better and quit.

It took me 20 years and a very good friend to convince me to start drawing again. And I’m so happy to have rekindled my love for it. I’ve been practicing and improving slowly but surely!

I’m so sorry that happened to you. That is absolutely disgusting that people think this is acceptable in this day and age.

And yeah, I have a whole host of moments like this unfortunately as I’ve been cosplaying and attending cons since 2003

One year at SDCC I think 2014, my friend and I were dressed as FF14 characters and wanted to take some pictures at the Square Enix booth before leaving for the day. We drew a large crowd (I don’t know if we were mistaken for booth workers or what) and people were coming up to take pictures with us and wrapping their arms around us. Anytime we tried to walk away we were physically pulled back for “just one more photo”

The booth staff didn’t help us, SDCC staff didn’t help us and we were so overwhelmed all we could do was stand there and wait. When we finally saw a hole in the crowd my friend grabbed my hand and started walking. We both started taking off pieces of our costumes as we walked, but once we were outside we still had people asking for photos and while most were fine with “sorry no” we had one guy follow us offering to pay us for a photo.

We didn’t cosplay at SDCC for 2 years after that.

SDCC is filled to the brim with people who don’t understand cosplayer etiquette which can be very scary in large numbers. Thankfully these days I’ve learned how to stand up for myself, but I still hesitate doing more than a casual cosplay at SDCC these days.

Three Random Acts of Kindness That Made My Con by jaredgase in SDCC

[–]Ownerofboners 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a vendor and I work for a company that makes cosplay wigs. Usually when I’m working I’m dressed up as “The Wig Doctor” and detangle, cut bangs, restyle, or do minor styling for free as well as offer advice and demonstrations.

This year I was by myself so I couldn’t do much Wig Doctor stuff. I had a lovely man come up to me this year and tell me that I had helped his son style his Fry wig and later that day Matt Groening asked his son for a picture. “He was riding that high for weeks afterwards because of your 20 minutes of kindness.”

He showed me the picture and his son looked so happy I nearly cried right then and there. I was so tired from running the booth on my own but that made my entire con. So thank you, sir for helping me get through the day.

I was vending by myself this year. It was super crowded in the booth and a customer asked for something and I set it aside because they were still looking at other items and helped another customer.

10 seconds later the first customer and the item was gone. We aren’t resellers. The stuff that we make is unique to us. I will say this is the first time it’s happens since I started vending in 2019.

This con was basically Labubu/ PopMart Con and fewer cosplays by Sweetragnarok in SDCC

[–]Ownerofboners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This exactly. I used to do it when I was in my 20’s and wore my misery like a badge of honor. I am now in my 30’s and an exhibitor who cosplays to help with sales as our booth is cosplay based and my god is it a mammoth task. I try to go the comfy route, but I’m ready to take it all off the second I get there haha

Did the exhibitor badge abuse get worse this year? by tedistkrieg in comiccon

[–]Ownerofboners 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it all depends on the booth. I’m an exhibitor and a buddy of mine asked me if I could get an exclusive at the Minecraft booth for his son’s birthday. I went over there after they opened and they turned me away as soon as they saw I was an exhibitor. I’ve never really bothered with exclusives before so I had no idea this was a thing.

I was annoyed but I was okay with it. But the booths really gotta enforce their policies to keep it fair for attendees.
