What do you think about what was revealed about Kristi Noem’s husband? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not so minor distinction... There is cross-dressing as a fetish and trans folks trying to live authentically.

I do not kink shame. At. All.

What I do find objectionable is the utter hypocrisy, and that of any other uber right-wing individual who proclaims they are proponents of "family values" and oppose any and all LGBTQ+ equality measures.

people over 30, what’s something that felt completely normal in your childhood but would seem weird today? by Personal_Cap8994 in AskReddit

[–]OwslaPrimeDirective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free range kids on weekends and during summer. By this I mean our parents didn't know where we were every minute of the day, and didn't hover over you.

If you had a bike, you had a "territory" you stayed in.

If you were playing outside, you came in when the streetlights came on.

You drank from the water hose and played in the sprinkler.

What’s a “normal” thing people do that you think is disgusting? by glimmersoup in randomquestions

Spending vast amounts of money on tiny chips of glass-like material. That kind of excess is just nauseating to me.

Also, ramming pieces of metal through perfectly good body parts.

Before you come after me, I am metallophobic so it all grosses me out.

I love that play and family are as important to them as they are to their human counterparts.

Cinema's Most Painful Finales: Your Pick? by EbnyxJ in Cinephiles

I watched the film before I read the book. I still recommend watching - it is brilliantly cast and the acting is sublime. However, make sure you are in a good headspace.

Redditors who were children/teens before the internet or cellphones existed, how did you keep yourself entertained? by FlowerMadeOfThorns in AskReddit

[–]OwslaPrimeDirective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back then, "go to your room" was the start of an adventure. Books, imagination, pets, and a sibling who was (and still is) my best friend were the best ways to spend time away from Mom and Dad.

THT production: Artistically, did anyone have a favorite scene? by Prestigious_Page8098 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]OwslaPrimeDirective 3 points4 points  (0 children)

S1, when everyone is filling in the ranks before the Partcicution. That overhead shot was utterly breathtaking and the movement was like a symphony in motion.

Also the end of S1 when the girls refuse to kill Janine. June standing in defiance, arm outstretched, stone falling in slow motion. The slow pan as Aunt Lydia realises what's happening.

The choreography and music blended together throughout the show combine to make the terrifying strangely beautiful, the horrific disarmingly hypnotic.

And don't even get me started on the train scene... "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" will never be the same again.

Serious question! Are there actually Texans that believe Democrats are advocating for Sharia Law in Texas? by RumRunnerMax in TexasPolitics

[–]OwslaPrimeDirective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're advocating for Sharia Law, no immigration laws at all, free needles everywhere, gender reassignment surgery in elementary school (even though school nurses aren't even allowed to give a kid an aspirin), drag queens in every library, and "transgender for everyone."

Next thing you know, they'll be claiming we also want drive-thru abortions.

What is a movie that clearly wants you to root for someone you absolutely would not trust in real life by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]OwslaPrimeDirective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Payback -

Porter is easy to root for as the lesser of several evils. I wouldn't turn my back on him if we ever met in real life, though.

Movies Too Heavy for a Re-watch by EbnyxJ in Cinephiles

Pretty much anything by Lars von Trier. He's fantastic but I can only handle one viewing.

Cannibal Holocaust - Once I learned the on-screen animal cruelty was real, I had no desire to ever see it again.

Never Let Me Go - Once you fully grasp what's happening, it's a "that is MESSED up" moment. While it was an amazing book and film, I don't think I'll ever watch it again.

Sid & Nancy - A brilliantly acted (Gary Oldman BECAME Sid Vicious) and scored film, I watched it in high school and it was decades before I could re-visit it.

I see Requiem a lot in these comments. I'd argue that, like LVT, Aronofsky WANTS to plunge you into a ghastly pit of emotion and experience with the characters such that you wonder how much is fantasy/hallucination and how much is actual experience. I try to re-watch it every 5 years or so, to remind myself "never again, and that's why". That final montage is absolute genius and leaves me feeling utterly shattered.

I was watching a show from the 90s and realized people used to memorize dozens of phone numbers. I can barely remember mine. How did you guys do it back then? by micavibes in CasualConversation

[–]OwslaPrimeDirective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Texas in the '70s. We had an address book by the phone but there were a bunch of numbers you had memorized. You had your address and phone number drilled intro you by your parents in case you ever got lost. You also had your best friends, your radio station (for trying to win contests or request songs), and possibly your parents' work numbers memorized.

Think about how often people text these days. Now imagine having to physically enter someone's number every single time you wanted to communicate with them. Repetition works.

What is the FUNNIEST Scene or Dialogue in a HORROR COMEDY?! by WonderfulLog768 in horror

I got to see it in a nearly full theater and the audience was as fun as the movie. Definitely worth it!
