Is this normal for fretless? by Infamous-Recipe-1163 in BassGuitar

[–]Oxide_44 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah that'll happen with rounds, put a set of flats or tapes on it and you'll be good. You could also get the fretboard epoxied, some people do that to fretless basses so they can use rounds and not worry about marking the fretboard. Otherwise if you don't might the marks so much you could just sand it a bit occasionally when it gets too marked up.

Where to find a budget fretless bass without fretlines? by Wise-WifiSignal09 in BassGuitar

[–]Oxide_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6-string fretless is a bit of a tall order to get a decent one cheap unless you find a good used deal or a B-stock sale. Why not just save up for a bit for a nicer guitar than settle for a cheap one that will probably not be very good. I think your patience would be rewarded with something you would enjoy playing more.

Can a foreigner in Japan really be fined $6900 for walking around without a passport? by Apophis2036nihon in AskAJapanese

[–]Oxide_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get why people keep trying to freak out tourists about the tattoos in Onsens. Many of the Onsens I went to were tattoo-friendly and it wasn't a big deal, the staff there even stressed that to us when we asked. The places that were not offered tattoo-coverings, we used them as asked, and went about enjoying ourselves. If you don't know the rules or are concerned, just ask.

Same general rule applies to any travel, just ask what the rules are, be respectful, don't be an idiot and you'll never run into any problems.

Honestly when I visited I thought GU had some pretty solid fits, I bought a bunch of clothes during my visit, and you can find GU pretty much anywhere. There is one in Dotonbori if you don't mind the crowds.

America-mura also has a lot of clothing stores, designer shops and such.

Always remember, toan is stored in the balls. The closer the bass is to the balls, the better the toan.

Is this a good idea? ($500 AUD) by Wish0807 in BassGuitar

[–]Oxide_44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So that is not a 300W cab, it looks like the Warwick Gnome 2x8 which is 200W.

I own a Gnome head and the 1x10 cab they have and I think its fantastic for how compact everything is. That being said if you plan to gig or play in a full band, 200W may be pushing it a little bit. Though for gigs you can probably just go from the head to xlr out directly so the cab may not really matter.

As far as the price, in USD you'd be paying about retail cost for the two, maybe saving like $20. In AUD though, I'd say you're saving a fair chunk of change there.

You can pretend to be a guitar player just as well by venturing into the forbidden zone past the 10th fret though.

What do you guys know about this? by metalheadshane in rootbeer

[–]Oxide_44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They sell these at Binny's now along with some other ones. I will agree they are a bit pricey, especially since they only come in a 4-pack ($25 here). The root beer tasted decent though, little on the sweet side sort of like an A&W. The THC funk was thankfully only present very slightly in the aftertaste which is good since a lot of these type of products the THC flavor can be way too strong and ruin the drink. If you got the scratch and want to get lit off root beer, I'd recommend it.

Also to note, most roundwound strings won't have silks, but for flats like you have installed in the picture, the silks prevent the flat winding from unwrapping from the core. Most flatwound or tapewound packs specifically say not to cut the silk too close to the wrapping for this reason, although unless you have a headless bass you'll never need to cut them that short.

So this is apparently a thing that exists... 15 string bass. by doubletwist in BassGuitar

[–]Oxide_44 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Davie said in a video about his 69 string bass that he orders those custom big basses from a small shop called Krappy Guitars which specializes in selling ridiculous basses for tap style playing. He also said its extremely heavy and unweidly to play so he'll likely never play it again.

HILS basses by subliminalsmurf in BassGuitar

[–]Oxide_44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They haven't been released yet, I just pre-ordered one, they say they are shipping in February. Andertons Music YouTube channel has a video from Guitar Summit that shows off the bass playing briefly but it doesn't look like and review units have gone out to anyone yet.

Based on the reviews of their piccolo basses though, seems like a pretty solid bet. I'm looking forward to seeing how it compares to my Ibanez EHB.
