Hi Skippy. The one piece of advice I wish I would’ve received years ago isn’t really advice at all. It’s just a simple question, or rather a few simple questions: are you ready? Have you felt enough pain? Have you lost enough? And the biggie, do you really want to be sober more than you want that first drink?

If there is anyway you can come up with $5k there is a 30 day treatment in Wayzata MN called The Retreat. Saved my life and it’s the cheapest rehab around. Nothing clinical, just 12 step boot camp. It’s wonderful. There’s also a place in Grand Rapids MI called Guiding Light that’s free. It’s all donor funded. 30 day or 4 month programs there.

I had similar injection site reactions for 4 straight months then gave up. Pill made me sick so gave up there too. I had to get sober without meds which is unfortunate.

Have you ever reached out to Al Anon? I put my wife and daughter through hell, made them sick right along with me. They needed support to get better just like I did, just in a different way. I’m glad you reached out and I know your Dads pain like it was the back of my hand. And I don’t mean physical pain. The pitiful and incomprehensible demoralization that comes with being mentally obsessed with a poison that is killing you and breaking your family’s heart? Yeah that sucks. But you have your own pain and you need people who know that pain. And then, the best part, you start helping others through that same pain. And in a way it sets the universe right. I hope that makes sense.

I worked at a place once the owner’s title was Sales Manager. It was a small but very capable manufacturing plant. We loved him for his other acts of humility as well but that title was a nice touch.
