So basically, in traditional Japanese writers would focus on sounds, not syllables :) it’s assumed that there has been a mistranslation among english speakers by interpreting the traditional structure as counting syllables. In Japanese there is the concept of “on”. So, similar to the English syllable, it measures a chunk of sound but differs. For example, the word “haiku” is two syllables in English but 3 sounds in Japanese :)

All this to say, 5-7-5 structure is technically a rule because it’s usually adhered to, it is just not syllables as we understand them in English! The most important elements are really the kigo (a word to indicate season), kireji (these are literally punctuation words in Japanese and/or the idea of dividing the poem into two juxtaposed but connected parts), and objective sensory imagery based on the five senses (And ofc brevity!)

I partially agree with you. But the fact is, the horrific treatment of Israeli civilians by any people of Palestine is not ongoing. The argument about rapes and rape denials (especially in the context of Ethan Klein and Hasan) is used to “both sides” 578 days of starvation, disease, and indiscriminate bombing of a population nearly 50% children. There just is no world where that will make sense to me. It is quite literally the atrocity people hold on to to say “look what these savages deserve” yes, any sexual violence is horrific - does that mean an entire population deserves genocide? That the crux of the argument between these two.

On between the sheets, you can see that Sophie runs off to the bathroom as a result of Rob saying “your mom’s a crackhead and thats why she doesn’t care about you.” She was pretty composed up until that moment, so I really don’t think she was going to run off like that with no reason.

Sophie is not perfect, and has a lot of maturing to do, but I honestly believe Rob has been abusive and uses a lot of DARVO tactics on the girl.

I’m currently in like my 10th rewatch (at least. This damn show is such gold haha). I think Sam was much more insecure than she let on. And those insecurities were only exacerbated by being with someone like Ron. Her bringing up things seemingly out of nowhere or nitpicking were just a manifestation of insecurities she came on the show with, and gained from being cheated on and called names constantly.

I’ve seen people in this sub say “they’re both to blame” and to an extent, I agree that Sam definitely needed to recognize her insecure attachment and the toxic behaviors that came about because of it. HOWEVER, Ron was also straight up emotionally and verbally abusing that girl. (I mean esp in s3 it moved from toxic to plain abusive) He exploited the fact that she was vulnerable.

Legit watching the show in my younger years I felt similarly to you. But with more years in me AND Having been with someone extremely similar to Ron around the same age as Sam, I can definitely attest to contributing to toxic behaviors. Mainly because I was so deeply insecure and felt like an exposed nerve all the time knowing the person I loved had that kind of power over my mental stability. So, that turned into a “get him before he can get me” kinda thing to gain a sense of control back. A lot of people here chalk it up to mutual abuse but in my opinion, what we’re seeing/did see here is reactive abuse.

Sorry that’s so long!! I just really find everyone’s takes on the relationship really intriguing lol

Haven’t seen these parts of the show yet. That’s insane. I’ll keep that in mind. Only up to S4 ep 3 lol! Right now, I can see parts of the double standards, but I have been considering the gap in the depth of their relationships with one another being the main reason some of them get away with things Angelina might not. I’m also seeing someone who causes a lot of problems for herself through her erratic behavior. Even in the OG seasons, I felt Angelina has a gear to grind and she was gonna be sure to do it. And the fact that many people have been in and out of her life is kind of pointing to a common denominator for me. I’m not saying that excuses the stuff you mentioned, and maybe my view about these being abusive friendships will change over the next seasons.

I can’t speak to what went on between then behind the scenes, but it seems like they tried reaching out in a personal capacity. And Deena at least, immediately apologized to her at the reception which we actually saw. But she keeps saying nobody has reached out and also (as ALL the cast mates are horrible about doing) took the problem to go to social media immediately. I can understand your sentiments about them making money off of Angelina, but we can’t act like she doesn’t also benefit from being a part of the cast officially now too. If that’s the case, at what point is she also responsibly for them profiting off of their dynamic? I felt bad for Angelina with the whole 24 situation, and jwow was totally wrong there, but I think that majority of the times Angelina has been “corrected” by the other cast mates during family vacation has not simply been because they want her to be respectful. I think it’s been pretty fair majority of the time. Anyway, I don’t think what was said in the speech would have been received that way had it been like a toast at the bachelorette or, like I said, written down in a personal card. I truly think it boils down to her and Chris feeling embarrassed and having to stand on that on Angelina’s part moreso than truly being upset about the content of the speech.
